Roscoe Day Obituary

HYDEN - Roscoe Day, born March 1, 1915 departed this life on Dec 23, 2008 at the age of 93 years, 9 months and 23 days old. He was born at Cutshin, KY the son of the late William H. Day and the late Mallie Maggard Coots. Roscoe was a retired coal miner having been employed by the Blue Diamond Coal Co, Leatherwood, KY. He had over 29 years of service in the mining industry. Roscoe was a member of the United Mine Workers and Southern Labor Union. He had also served in the three C's camp during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and pick-up trucks as hobbies. Roscoe was affiliated with the Church of Christ and had been a life-long resident of Leslie County, KY, living at 6194 Cutshin Rd, Smilax, KY, at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents: William Day and Mallie Coots, one son-in-law: Don Wax and a host of treasured brothers and sisters. He leaves surviving the following relatives: his loving and devoted wife of 70 years: Callie Miniard Day of Smilax, KY; one son: Edward Day of Harrodsburg, KY; four daughters: Irene Wax of Big Stone Gap, VA, Ulene Lewis and husband Fred Lewis of Hyden, KY, Arlene Alsgaard and husband, Dr. Hartley Alsgaard of Yankton, SD, Orlene McEachern of Harrodsburg, KY; one sister: Polly Cornett of Hazard, KY. Also survived by ten grandchildren: Clyde Franks, Edward Franks, Karen Chase, Regina Davis, Cheryl Lewis, Melissa Sparks, Dawn Marie Day, Paxton Alsgaard, Hannah Callie Alsgaard, Travis McEachern and by 15 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and a host of other treasured relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mr. Roscoe Day will be held at 11am Fri, Dec 26, 2008 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Joe Lewis and Danny Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Roscoe and Callie Day Cemetery located at Smilax, KY. The following will serve as pallbearers: Clyde Franks, Edward Franks, Paxton Alsgaard, Travis McEachern, Rodney Coots and honorary pallbearer, nephew, Billy Ray Coots. Visitation will be held from 5-9pm Thu, Dec 25, 2008 at the funeral home chapel. You may send your condolences at www.walkerfuneralhomesllc.com
