Surur Dawahare Obituary
February 8, 1949 - July 30, 2022
Lexington, Kentucky - Surur Joseph "Joe" Dawahare, 73, of Lexington, KY, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Baptist Health Hospital. He was an alum of Pikeville High School and a graduate of the University of Kentucky. Joe was born Feb 8, 1949 in Jenkins, KY, son of the late Harding and Evelyn Dawahare. Along with his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his grandchild, Patrick Denehy.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Mendez Dawahare, and their three children: Thomas Dawahare (Melissa), Emily Denehy (Kevin), and Anne Jenks (Rich). He is survived by five grandchildren: Knox and Jax Dawahare, Fiona and Eva Denehy, and Evelyn Grace Jenks. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Harding Dawahare (Gayle), Selma Owens (Eddie), Nellie Wilkinson (Harvie), William Dawahare (Anne), and Frank Dawahare (Theresa), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joe touched countless lives and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in his memory to the Harding and Evelyn Dawahare Scholarship Fund, UPike, 147 Sycamore St., Pikeville, KY 41501. Visitation will be at the Milward-Man O' War, 1509 Trent Blvd, Lexington, KY on Thursday, August 4th, from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. Funeral services will be at the Cathedral of Christ the King, 299 Colony Blvd, in Lexington, KY on Friday, August 5th, at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, KY. www.milwardfuneral.com

My condolences for your loss and have been praying for your family during this time. Mr Dawahare was my soccer coach as a boy and I remember fondly playing for him and alongside Tommy. I appreciate his kindness and the Dawahare family always making me feel welcome in their home as well.

I am so sorry to hear of this loss in the Dawahare family. I did not know Joe, but Selma, Eddie, and Trey were dear dear friends to our family when we lived in Lexington and I see the Dawahare family in his beautiful face. Condolences to all of you.

Joe was an incredible human being
A gentleman, disciple of Christ, He Had a heart of a Servant and was very involved at Christ the King Cathedral. A huge loss for the parish and even great loss for his wife, immediate family , extended family, friends and former co workers.
