Dee Freerks Obituary

Dee Ann Freerks, 74, of Aredale, passed away Monday, August 25, 2025, at Franklin Country View Care Center, Hampton. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 29, at Aredale United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00, Thursday, at Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory, Dumont. Memorial donations may be directed to the family to be used at a later date. Dee Ann Freerks (DeVries) was born on April 4, 1951, in Hampton, Iowa to Edwin and Evelyn (Johansen) DeVries. Dee Ann graduated from Clarksville High School with the class of 1969. After high school Dee Ann married Robert Freerks on January 21, 1972, in Dumont, Iowa. The two of them made their lives together in rural Ackley, and later settling in Aredale, Iowa on the farm. This is where she came into her full-time job of a farm wife and mother to their four boys. She took to the role of mother with grace and made sure anyone and everyone that came to the house was fed and you could not leave until you had something, even if that was a bologna and cheese sandwich cut into triangles. She had a devotion to her family; Dee Ann and Bob would go everywhere together. It did not depend on how hot it was outside if Bob knew someone, he would be sure to have a chat with them for hours while Dee Ann would wait for him to say his goodbyes. She was known for her driving not in the traditional sense of a speed demon but the opposite, she was once pulled over for going to slow in a 25 mile per hour zone that brought laughter for her grandchildren. She would also rubberneck at times while driving leading her into a ditch, tree stump and a curb, just to name a few. The only time she put the petal to the metal was in an attempt to make sure the pizza she had gotten made it to the boys working on the fence line while it was still hot, that meant 60 miles per hour down the hay field. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, watching sporting events or just having the time to sit at the kitchen table and hear about their day. After Bob passed in 2011, she put all of her time and energy into her grandchildren's lives. Dee Ann's memory is left to be cherished by her sons: Randy Freerks of Aredale, son Ricky & wife Jerrilyn Freerks of Aredale, son Darren Freerks of Dumont, son Dalen Freerks of Ackley, grandchildren: Morgan Marshall, Monica Freerks, Cole Freerks, Jaden Freerks, Galen Freerks, Taylor Freerks, Bently Freerks, Novalee Freerks, Connor Freerks, James Freerks, Jordan Freerks, and great-grandchildren Carter Freerks, and Kinzley Cordle. Sisters: Joyce Henning, Esther Perkings, and Barbara Brinkman. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Freerks, father Edwin (stepmother Rose) DeVries, mother Evelyn DeVries, mother and father-in-law Everett and Elsie Freerks.
