Dan Mitchell Godwin, 66, husband of Sara Beth Burgess Godwin, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025, at McLeod Hospice House of Florence. He is now rejoicing in the presence of his Savior, free from pain and suffering.
Dan was born October 4, 1958, in Richland County, son of the late Carl L. Godwin and Mamie C. Godwin. Dan was a man of many traits and talents. He held positions as a sales representative and general manager for many years. He also established and operated his own small construction company until his health declined. Dan enjoyed cooking and baking cakes for family and friends. He was also a skilled woodworker who took pleasure in building and selling his furniture. Dan was passionate about sharing the love of God with others. He was a faithful member of Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he served as a deacon, soloist, choir member, youth leader, and "chief cook and bottle washer" for Royal Rangers. Dan was known for his compassionate nature, giving spirit, witty sense of humor, and infectious laughter. His personality brought warmth and joy to everyone he encountered. Dan poured out from the strength of Christ within him and a favorite scripture was Philippians 4:13 " I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Surviving Mr. Godwin in addition to his wife Sara Beth, are his children, Candace (Benji) Powell of Kingstree; and Christopher Roth of Lakeland, FL; five grandchildren, Rivers Powell, MaKenzie Powell, Jordan Roth, Alyssa Roth, and O'Neil Roth; sisters, Jean (Daniel) Chandler, of Lake City, Susan Godwin of Scranton and Wanda Godwin of Lakeland, FL; and brothers, Stan (Scarlett) Godwin of Raleigh, NC and Mitchell (Michelle) Godwin of Summerville.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by a daughter, April McKenzie; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Roth; sisters, Janet Murdock and Wilda Lee; and brothers, Carl Godwin, and Keith Leavens.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church, with burial to follow in Kingstree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall beginning at 12:00 PM.
