Dover - Daniel Clifton "D.C." Wetherington, Sr., 74, of Dover passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, May 17, 2021 at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Guy Wetherington, Sr. and Essie Aldridge Wetherington, sister, Doris "Dot" Whaley Jackson and Mary Louise Wetherington Loftis, and brothers, Bobby Wetherington, William Thomas Wetherington, and William Guy Wetherington, Jr.

D.C. was a loving husband of 56 years and a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He worked as an industrial mechanic for Weyerhaeuser where he eventually retired after 30 years of service. He loved working in his yard, especially his flowers, cooking and grilling, and spending time hunting and fishing outdoors. D.C. had a special place in his heart for the many animals he cared for over the years. He always looked forward to family get-togethers and being with his family on their yearly vacations at the beach. He was loved by all and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Langston Wetherington; sons, Daniel Clifton Wetherington, Jr. and wife, Terry, Mickey Wayne Wetherington, and Stuart Eugene Wetherington and wife, Crystal; grandchildren, Daniel Clifton Wetherington III, Derek Tyler Wetherington, and fiancée, Ashley, Michael Payton Wetherington, Logan Hill Torres and husband, Ramon, Tatum Jo Wetherington, Cheyenne Nichole Wetherington, Zac Wetherington, Samantha Wetherington, and Hollyann Magdalyn Wetherington; great-grandchildren, Aubree Nichole Wetherington and Eden Rose Torres; siblings, Jean White and Rose Scott, and many other close family and friends.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Heart Transplant Team at Duke Medical, the Craven County Dialysis Unit, and the doctors and staff at CarolinaEast Medical Center for their excellent care and compassion while caring for Mr. Wetherington.

A visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Pinelawn Memorial Park. At the family's request, it is asked that anyone attending the service please wear a mask or facial covering due to COVID-19.

D.C. was deeply grateful for the opportunity to be able to receive a heart from a willing donor and the family would like for others to consider becoming a donor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carolina Donor Services, 3621 Lyckan Parkway, Durham, NC 27707.
