Travis Everette Obituary

LA GRANGE - Travis Daniel Everette of La Grange passed away on Friday, July 6, 2012. Travis was 69 years old and a lifelong resident of Kinston and La Grange. He was born October 7, 1942 to Julian Franklin Everette Jr. and Mary Potter Everette, who predeceased him. He attended Grainger High School where he played on the baseball team. He began his career as vice president of The Love Company before he started his own business. Travis owned Everette's Industrial Repair in Kinston for over 25 years. His business was a source of pride and joy for him. He was an innovator and a problem solver. All who worked with him respected his intellect, ingenuity and dedication. Travis was a friend to all who knew him and made new friends out of all who met him. His gentlemanly manners and his sense of humor were his trademarks. He was an avid fisherman and gardener and loved being on the water. He loved being an Eastern North Carolinian and delighted many with his fish stew and barbecue. He was a kind and gentle man, a wonderful father and a loving husband. Those who know him best, knew that he was happiest at home in his garden. Travis is survived by his wife, Debbie Vann Everette who he married on October 11, 2008. While their marriage was far too short, it filled him with much happiness. He is also survived by a sister Helen Elizabeth Everette of Kinston; three children from his marriage to Barbara Grant of La Grange, April Everette and Mark Steven Shelton of New York, N.Y., Daniel Todd Everette of Kinston and Kelly Everette and Joshua Matthew Ness of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; two stepchildren from his marriage to Debbie Vann, Sherry Vann and Travis Vann, both of Goldsboro. He leaves behind four beloved grandchildren, Everette Spencer Shelton, Isabella Cooper Ness, Emiliano Tapia Everette and Hewitt Potter Shelton. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 9, 2012 at 7 p.m. from Wheat Swamp Christian Church, 3732 Wheat Swamp Road, La Grange, with Pastor Hank Jarman officiating. A graveside burial service will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 10 a.m. from Pinelawn Memorial Park, Kinston. Online condolences may be expressed at rousefh.com. You will be missed by me. It is good to have meet you and have done business with you and having you as a friend. You were one of those people that you could depend on, and, that would try and do anything he could to help you. Your family has been lucky to have had you in their lives. I know that they will miss you, and only the Lord can and will get them through the loss of you. God bless you and your family.

To the family of Travis Everette, I send you my condolences. I haven't seen Travis since he was a teenager and I was about 9. I doubt that he would remember me if he were still in mortality, but more likely he would remember my mom and brother, Grace and Freddie (Fred now) Thompson.

I recall once when my mom was driving a 1949 Ford at night with a car load of the youth from church and the muffler was loose. We were going down Queen Street and Travis and his friend Tommy Lokey said if mama would pull over they would take the muffler off and put it in the trunk. I didn't know what it would sound like, but had a feeling it would be very loud. I even asked them if it would be loud and they both snickered and said "no, you won't be able to hear at all". Well, they were definitely right, we couldn't hear anything BUT the muffler, but they thought it was pretty cool with them being teenagers. I was very embarrassed, but my mom knew it had to come off in order to be repaired. At least they got a kick out of it. I doubt that they would even remember such an event, but I well recall it. I just recall that Travis was a kind person and was always nice to us younger kids, not trying to show off or anything like that which was most appreciated.

Wishing the best to his family. I know you will miss him, but hope you know he's in a better place.

This man will surely be missed by all that passed his path. A Master of Technology, there wasn't anything he would not tackle. If it was broke, he could fix it. Our condolences to his family. He will be missed.

Travis was a very special person and will be missed by MANY! He may be gone, but his memory will live on and on. Travis was the person who took the time to teach me everything that I know about metalworking.
Travis was a very intelligent man and will be missed very much for years to come.

"Forever Young"

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

So sorry to read of Travis' death. Being 63 yo, I remember first meeting Travis when he worked at his father's shop across from where the Woodman Center is on Vernon Ave. His father & my grandfather were friends. I also well remember buying a '36 Chevrolet coupe hot rod from Travis when I was a teenager.

I always considered Travis a friend & will certainly miss him. He was a great guy.

April, my love, prayers, and sympathy go to you all.
