Jane Picht Obituary

Jane "Janie" Tsuneko (Tsukimura) Picht, 85, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Monday, December 16, 2024, at The Pines Adult Care Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

Born June 3, 1939, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Janie was the daughter of the late Kensaburo and Yoshiko Tsukimura. On June 25, 1966, in Des Moines, Iowa, Janie was united in marriage to Burton "Burt" Leroy Picht, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin Tsukimura and Duane Tsukimura.

Janie is survived by her daughter Nancy Picht, one brother, Melvin Tsukimura, and one sister, Doris (Tsukimura) Tanahara.

Janie graduated from McKinley High School in 1957 and the University of Hawaii in 1963. She moved to Des Moines, Iowa, to attend the College of Automation, where she met her future husband Burt. Shortly after they were married, they moved to Kirksville, Missouri, where they resided until their deaths. Janie worked at Sears for 20 years until the store was closed, then she worked at Northeast Regional Medical Center until she retired.

Janie loved gardening and was a Master Gardener. She liked to help people and volunteered with organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, the Adair County Public Library, and the Clothes Closet. She enjoyed keeping her body and mind active, and did not know a stranger. Janie's caring and feisty spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church in Kirksville, with Pastor Dale Stone presiding. Public visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the First Presbyterian Church in Kirksville.

Burial will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri.
