Jilson Fielden Obituary

FIELDEN, JILSON "JAY" - age 87 of Maryville, went to be with the Lord's family on July 12, 2007. Jay was born August 8, 1919 in Knoxville, TN. He was the son of the late Charles and Emma Fielden. As a boy, he was Knoxville's city-wide marbles champion and two-time Knoxville tennis champion as a young man. Jay attended Knoxville High School from 1933 to 1937. His career began as a mechanical engineer for Fulton Company. During World War II, he helped design numerous airplane systems to assist the war effort. Later, he co-founded Sanitary Disposal Company with his business partner Kenneth Vann. His final position was as a nuclear engineer for Union Carbide in Oak Ridge until his retirement in 1981. Following retirement, he settled in Leesburg, FL where he was a member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed seven years before returning to East Tennessee to live in Maryville. Later in life, he continued to share his knowledge as a member of the Technical Society of Knoxville. When living in East Tennessee, he attended Broadway Baptist Church in Knoxville and Monte Vista Baptist Church in Maryville. An avid boater, he was an active member of both the Knoxville Boat Club and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. Also a motorcycle enthusiast, he enjoyed riding for over five decades. A fan of the Tennessee Volunteers football program, he and his wife held season tickets for forty years. Preceded in death by wife Betty Fielden and son-in-law: Charles Sitzlar. Jay is survived by two children, Elaine (Fielden) Sitzlar of Maryville, and Kevin Fielden of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren Johnathan and Melanie Sitzlar both of Maryville. Funeral service 2:30 P.M. Sunday Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev Bob Dalton officiating. Interment Lynnhurst Cemetery. The family request memorials be made to Blount Memorial Hospice (977-5702) or to The Knoxville Boat Club. The family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:30 P.M. Dear Fielden Family,
I knew Betty & Jay for many years. They were wonderful friends and we missed them in our Sunday School Class. My deepest sympathy to the entire family.

please accept my deepest sorrow for your father. he was a wonderful man that never talked about me from divorcing his best friends daughter, debbie fitch. i have the most respect for him now and forever more. you should be proud for him as i do. terry milligan sr.
