Nadine Alexander Obituary

Nadine Elizabeth Johnson Alexander

Milwaukee, WI formerly Knoxville, TN

Nadine was born in Corydon, IN January 9, 1926 but grew up in Arlington, VA where she moved when she was 10. She died August 6, 2018 at the age of 92 in Milwaukee, WI surrounded by loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents Ronald and Keestle Johnson, her only sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Fred Leder, by Jim Alexander, her husband of 51 happy years, and by her son, Keith Alexander. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Nadine Nelson Alexander, her grandson and his wife, Alex Nelson and Chloe Higgins, all of WI. Also surviving are her niece Debra Grogan and family of VA, and nephew David Leder and family of NC.

Nadine's great love of friends and family and service to her church and community made her an inspiration to others. She prized education and worked to make a positive difference for so many children as an enthusiastic, caring elementary school teacher. An avid and skilled needle worker, she learned and taught beautifully crafted techniques from many cultures. Always known for her warmth and positive attitude, Nadine shared her kindness and gifts with everyone around her.

She moved to TN in 1976 and enjoyed living in Knoxville for over 30 years. Nadine was active in a number of civic organizations in the Knoxville area. Among these were the Knoxville Chapter of the Embroiderers' Guild, where she served in many regional and national leadership positions; and Chapter J of PEO, which promotes women's education. Nadine was a member of Concord Methodist Church since 1998 and was active in their Prime-Timers Group of senior adults.

A memorial service will be held for Nadine on Monday, October 29th at 10:30 a.m. in the small chapel of Concord Methodist Church, located at 11020 Roane Dr. in Knoxville. It was Nadine's wish that her ashes be returned to the place and people she loved so well. Friends and neighbors are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chapter J of PEO, 3700 Grand Ave. Des Moines, IA 50312 or to Embroiderers' Guild of America, 1205 East Washington St. #117 Louisville, KY 40206.

Exactly one year, three months and 17 days later, Nadne's lovely daughter nancy met a man who loves her every day, and who happens to have a daughter born on the same date as Nadine died. Perhaps the intersection of Bob and Nancy was in some way pre-ordained, but who will ever know? rest in Peace, Nadine, your daughter is being cared for very well. love, Bob

Nadine was such a good friend to our mother, Susan Howard. We enjoyed her presence on our many trips to Knoxville and one wonderful cruise to Alaska. We are so thankful that Nadine cared for our mom and so many others. We know she will be greatly missed by other friends and family. The Howard girls, Wanda, Gretchen, Elizabeth and Anne.
