Richard Clark Obituary

CLARK, RICHARD W., III - age 50, passed away August 26, 2009 at home with his family by his side after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Rick was born to Richard and Harriette Clark on February 8, 1959 at Ft. Meade, MD. Rick was a loving and devoted husband, father, son and brother. He is survived by his loving wife, Laurie; his children, Richard, Sarah and Jeff; his parents, Richard and Harriette Clark; brothers, Kevin & David Clark along with a large extended family. While a teen in Turkey Rick earned his Eagle Scout award. He graduated from Largo High School, FL, received an appointment to West Point, he earned his BS at the University of Florida and his MBA and JD from U.T. Rick then spent over 16 years as a highly respected attorney in Knoxville. He was a dedicated churchman as demonstrated by his many years of youth work and his service as a Vestryman, Acolyte Master and Sunday school teacher. Rick was an amazing friend to all and never met a stranger. His love of life was only surpassed by his love for living. A memorial service to honor Rick's life will be held Monday, August 31st at 1:00 at St. John's Cathedral, 413 W. Cumberland Avenue, Downtown Knoxville. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick's memory may be made to the Sarcoma Alliance, 775 E. Blithedale, #334, MillValley, CA 94941. sarcomaalliance.org.

For only a few days and a total of less than five hours you came into my life under the worst of circumstances for me. It's been over ten years ago. But I have never forgotten your name . I was looking forward to seeing you again and thanking you for saving my life. I've only just now found you again. I've actually got a knot in my stomach and I am shedding tears that you are gone from this world and happy that you have gone home to our heavenly Father . Our one true God. And once again you have touched my life at yet another turning point in my life. I know you are God's Child for he said we would know each other. So I wish to reach out to your wife and comfort her after all these years that you truly were Godsent into my life . And reassure her to let you go knowing you are there and return to God.

During my years of working for Wayne Carmichael, and I basically worked hand in hand together. He gained my respect for always making sure justice was done. The world is truly emptier without him in it. My heart goes out to his family and friends, as I thought the world of him too.

Rick lives on through his wonderful children. I personally have known his son Richard for many years. He is truly an outstanding and fine young man. My heart breaks for the loss of his father. I believe fruit does not fall far from the tree and Richard will continue to grow into a fine and goodhearted man, as was his father. Know my thoughts are with you and your family, Richard and I am here for you, Love,

Rick was one of my favorite people! He could cook pork tenderloin with Jezebel sauce better than anyone. He was great to work with on the Habitat for Humanity job site - he let me boss him around and said "yes ma'am" and didn't let on that he was extremely competent as a carpenter - at first. He represented my son, who was in jail because of mental illness, with utmost compassion. He surprised us with boiled crawfish on a Jimmy Carter Work Project in Robbins. I will miss him, but will never forget him.
