Robert Rice Obituary

RICE, ROBERT WILLIAM "BOB" - age 91 of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday morning, November 21, 2009 at Shannondale Retirement Center. He was formerly of Chester, Virginia and Lake Charles, Louisiana. Bob was a member of West Hills Presbyterian Church and served many years as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church in Chester, Virginia. Bob retired from Firestone in 1974 as the President of Synthetic Fibers Division. He was a member of the ATO Fraternity and a graduate of Iowa State University in 1941 as a Chemical Engineer. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, June Arnold Rice, to whom he was totally devoted. Bob is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Rice Miller and Dr. Michael M. Miller of Knoxville; grandsons, Reverend Matthew Miller, Dr. Drew Miller and wife Laura Ambrose Miller and Todd Miller; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Charles Edward and Eleanor Rice of Bethesda, Maryland; niece, Barbara Rice and nephew, John Rice. The family would like to express their deep appreciation and a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Shannondale Retirement Center, Reverend Fred Fowler and Dr. Doug Leahy. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at West Hills Presbyterian Church with Reverend Scott Horne and Reverend Matt Miller officiating. Inurnment will be private at Highland Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to West Hills Presbyterian Faith Promise Foreign Missions, c/o West Hills Presbyterian Church, 7600 Bennington Drive, Knoxville, TN 37909 or Shannondale Pastoral Care, c/o Shannondale Health Care Center, 801 Vanosdale Road, Knoxville, TN 37909.
