Lenwood Lay

Lenwood Lay, age 94, of Jellico, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 4 at his residence in Jellico, with his loving family around him. Lenwood was a member of the United States Coast Guard serving his country proudly during World War II. He was employed with the Campbell County Board of Education for 40 years, where he served as a teacher, principal, guidance counselor and coach at Wynn, Newcomb and Jellico schools, when he wasn't in the classroom he enjoyed farming. Lenwood loved his church family at New Hope Tabernacle in Jellico.
Lenwood was preceded in death by his parents, Lindsay L. Lay and Ellen Hutson Lay; brother and sister-in-law, Lenoir and Deloris Lay; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Bridges, Dr. Ned Watts; mother-and-father-law, Morgan S. Llewellyn and Thelma Wilson Llewellyn.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis Lay; daughter, Karen Anders and husband, Dr. Charles Anders of Corbin, Ky.; sons, Lenwood Lay, Jr. and wife, Rebecca of Elk Valley, Morgan Lay and wife, Jennifer of Jellico; grandsons, Joshua Lay and wife, Christa, Noah Lay and girlfriend, Emily Cummins; granddaughters, Savannah, Sophia, Madelyn and Katherine Lay; brother, J.S. Lay and wife, Iris; sisters, Jeanetta Bridges, Ruth Warner and husband, Roger; sister-in-law, Joanne Watts and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.
Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 8 at the Llewellyn Funeral Home Chapel in Jellico, with the Rev. Mike Douglas and the Rev. David Creekmore officiating. Interment will be Thursday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. in Jellico Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Honor Guard Post 154. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to New Hope Tabernacle in Jellico, in memory of Lenwood Lay.
