John McCarthy Obituary

John Patrick McCarthy of Midland, Texas passed away on April 23, 2009 at his beloved Blue Mountain Ranch in Junction, Texas. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends. John was born on March 14, 1947 in Waukegan, IL. He graduated from North Chicago High School and Northern Illinois University. He was a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity. After graduating he enlisted in the Navy Flyers, serving his country proudly as a lieutenant commander during the Vietnam War. John moved to Midland, Texas in 1977, working for Texaco as a petroleum geologist for 18 years. He then became an independent petroleum geologist in western Texas. John and his family spent many days at the Blue Mountain Ranch doing what he loved most - ranching and hunting. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years Rebecca, (nee Person); daughters, Twyla J. McCarthy of Dallas, TX and Kaitlyn E. McCarthy of Baton Rouge, LA; and sons, Tobias M. McCarthy and John Patrick McCarthy both of Midland, TX. He is also survived by his mother, Maryann (Shirley) McCarthy of North Chicago; sisters, Kathy Stolarick of Gurnee and Mary McCarthy of Boling Brook, IL; his mother-in-law, Maryanne Person of Midland, TX; sisters-in-law, Mary Catherine Person of Austin, TX and Brenda (Glogovsky) McCarthy of Fox Lake, IL; brother-in-law, John (Jan) of Midland, TX; several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and the many friends he has made over the years. He was preceded in death by his father Edward B. McCarthy; his brother, Edward A. McCarthy; brother-in-law, David E. Stolarick; nephew, Matthew D. Stolarick, and father-in-law, Oscar C. Person. Arrangements were made by the Gentry Fife Funeral Home of Junction, TX. A memorial service will be held at the Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Highway, Midland, TX, 79701 on Saturday, May 2, 2009. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
