One of the finest people I ever met. So genuine. A great mentor. Helped me and the District get through some very tough financial times at Newark City Schools (NCS). We actually left NCS on the same day. His passing is a definite loss for all those who knew him. Extra love sent to his loving wife Cathy and their family. Rest peacefully.

Tonight many of us attended the calling hours for Dan and his family. As I waited my place in line, I was overwhelmed with joy. Obviously he had touched so many lives in such positive ways, everyone wanted/needed to pay their respects for what he had given to them.
My heart is full, as I hope yours is, to have known Dan Montgomery. The child, the husband, the father, the grandfather, the teacher, the mentor, the friend to everyone. We've all been blessed by your presence.
Till we meet again my friend. Keep smiling.

Condolences to the whole Montgomery Family, I coached at Licking Valley High School while Dan was principal there. Dan is a real class act, and I learn a few things from him that was very positive in my life. I always loved to talk shop with him since he was an Old Wrestling Coach before practices and he always was very supportive of the wrestling program. Again Prayers to the whole Montgomery Clan and David and Brian I know he's in a better place. God Bless you all....

Coach "Bear" loved his Vikings of 1977. We were his first football team he was the head coach for and we gave him an undefeated season and N.C.C championship. Bear was a friend and mentor who always made sure we knew he cared about us. Over the years, I have often thought about him and always remember his family whenever I passed his home on Church St. in Marion. The world is a lesser place without Coach Bear. Thanks for all your guidance on the field and in the classroom.

I've only know Dan and Kathy approximately five years, since they moved to Powell. So I'm more or less a newbie to the admirers of theirs.
Their love of each other is a 'shared' love. Not of each other, but shared together. And that will never end. They shared that love beyond themselves. Family, friend, community and God. Which you all have proven is true as I read through other's posts. I was given a gift when I met them, to be part of that shared love. My gift included to be a part of Dan and Kathy's journey of life.
Cancer sucks. Of that we can all agree. Cancer threw many complications in Dan's path. But, always, he met them head on with strength, positive attitude and faith in God. Always steadfast that he would prevail.
I was at Dan and Kathy's just two weeks ago. Dan still fighting, still positive, still feisty. Weak in body but strong of mind and spirit. And, as always, Kathy right there tenderly and lovingly tending to him.
Dan will be forever be remembered my many of us. Although he is gone from our earth, he will ever be in our hearts and our memories. As Kathy put it 'a truly wonderful husband and human being'.
Prayers for comfort for all who will carry him with you always. And Dan, peace to you. We'll all get together on our next journey.

April 29, 2017

My sincere condolences to the family and friends. I hope that you find comfort in each other and in prayer (Psalms 65;2) during this sad and difficult time.

Such a good man. I can't begin to explain how much he did for me when I was a member of LV's staff and at Johnstown. I'm grateful for the opportunity to have known him.

Heaven got a great person in Dan. He was always pleasant and when I was at LV and younger than him he treated me as good as his classmates. He will be missed and my prayers are with all of you.

If you look up the word "warrior" you should see a picture of Dan Montgomery! He lived by the Golden Rule and clearly valued relationships with people. Dan brought out the best in all that knew him. Regretfully I cannot be there for the funeral. Love, peace and grace to Cathy, the girls and his grandkids. RIP noble warrior!
