Albert Langley Obituary

November 23, 1930 - August 10, 2021 Albert W. Langley, 90, died peacefully in his assisted living residence, in the care of hospice and surrounded in the past few days by his wife of 67 years, Carol, along with his daughter, Barbara, and two sons, William and James.Albert was born in Guilford County, North Carolina, son of Ross B. and Carrie Peacock Langley. He was one of seven siblings. An amateur Golden Glove boxer in high school, in 1950 he won the North Carolina Piedmont 135-pound class division with three straight knockout wins, and then quit the sport. A local newspaper attributed this quote to him: "Boxing is usually called the manly art of self defense, but I call it getting your brains beat out."Albert earned several degrees, including BA in Religious Education from Malone College in Ohio, and another BA from Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan. He also earned an MA from the University of Michigan, with additional graduate work at Michigan State University. But perhaps his greatest education came from Carol Malinda Comfort of Albion, Michigan, whom he met at Cleveland Bible College in 1952 and married a short time later. They shared a love for scripture and one another for more than 65 years. His chosen profession was pasotral ministry, and it was this vocation that brought him to Pasadena, CA, in August, 1969, as pastor at First Friends Church, a Quaker congregation. Previous pastorate endeavors included Broadview Heights, Ohio; Cadmus, MI; Wichita, KS; Harper, KS; and Anderson, IN.Pasadena was home for the next 52 years. After his service with First Friends Church concluded nearly a decade later, Albert transitioned into several other endeavors, including the establishment of the QLAW counseling firm, and accreditation as both a financial planning consultant and real estate agent. He never officially retired.Albert is survived by his wife, Carol, daughter Barbara Langley-Fuller, sons William and James, younger sister Hilda Bass of Archdale, NC, and four adult grandchildren, Marissa, Tyler, Ben and Carina. No services are currently scheduled. He will be cremated per his instructions.

My husband Rory and Icmet he Langley Family while attending First Friends in 1974. Al was a good pastor and Carol a gracious hostess inviting us for lunch after one Sunday service
My condolences to Carol, Barbara, Bill and Jim. Know that your Dad was special and he was so kind to my late husband and I. We had moved to Northern California by the 1980´s and lost touch over the years
He lived a very rich life with three great kids, now adults, to be proud of.

Albert played a big role in my young life. I can picture his bright smile now as he shared peaches from his tree, chaperoned the youth group on weekend camping trips, joked with as as a slight reprimand for toilet papering his home (during church!), lovingly spoke life lessons as he wed my husband and I, beautifully including my soon to be son in the ceremony, and so much more. Memories of Albert are sweet. He made my life rich.
