Charles "Bud" Woodard Dutton, Jr. was born on January 7, 1937, at Hollywood Hospital in Hollywood, California, to Beulah Gagnon Dutton and Charles Woodard Dutton, Sr. Bud passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, at the age of 88, in his home surrounded by his family.
In 1947, Bud and his family moved to Riverside, California where he attended Lowell Elementary School, Central Junior High School, and Polytechnic High School. After graduating from high school in 1955, Bud attended the University of California, Berkeley where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and ROTC. Bud graduated from Cal Berkeley in 1959 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
After college, Bud served in active duty with the United States Army before transferring in July 1960 to the United States Air Force 452nd Troop Carrier Wing. He completed his military commitment at March Air Force Base in Riverside, earning an honorable discharge with the rank of Captain in 1972.
In October 1960, Bud began his lifelong career at Dutton Motor Company, formerly Rubidoux Motors. On December 29, 1962, Bud married the love of his life, Margaret "Margo" Jane Seamans. Bud remained an active and integral part of Dutton Motor Company throughout his life, serving as Chairman. Bud was also deeply involved in his community as a member and past president of the YMCA, a board member of the Kiwanis Club of Riverside, and a member of both the Citizens University Committee and the International Wine and Food Society of Riverside.
Bud had a passion for the outdoors and adventure. He was a member of the Bear River Club in Utah, where he enjoyed small game hunting. He also loved sailing his boat, Limelight, in Newport Beach, skiing in Sun Valley, Idaho, and trout fishing in Idaho and Montana. Daily bike rides with his friends in Riverside and Newport Beach were a regular part of his routine. He also took great pride in driving his cars from his vintage car collection. Above all, Bud cherished every moment he spent with his wife, Margo, and his children Woody and Darcy. Later in his life, Bud loved keeping up with his four grandchildren and their many interests and activities, including water polo games, swim meets, soccer games and theater performances.
Bud was a gentleman and a man of tradition. He was devoted to his family. He was a sound businessman, known for his integrity, honesty, and loyalty, as well as for possessing a keen sense of humor.
Bud is survived by his wife, Margo Dutton; his two children, Charles Woodard Dutton, III (wife, Renee Haupt Dutton) of Riverside, California, and Darcy Dutton Weis (husband, Matthew Weis) of Claremont, California; his four grandchildren, Casey Jane Dutton, Riley Laura Dutton, Matthew "Mercer" Weis, and Kendell Elizabeth Weis; his sister, Diane Dutton Jessup (husband, Andrew T. Jessup, Sr. and family) of Palm Springs, California; and his cousin Dr. John Branch (wife, Lisa Branch and family) of Riverside, California.
Services will be held on August 28, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
All Saints Episcopal Church, Riverside California.
