Edward Ancona Obituary

Ancona, Edward Percival, Jr. June 11, 1921- November 8, 2005 Survived by: wife Dorothy; children Ted (Valerie) and Francesca; and grandchildren Samantha and Jon Ancona.
Studied bassoon at Eastman School of Music '40-42 and played professionally in the Rochester Philharmonic under conductor Jose Iturbi, BS and BA at the University of New Mexico in 1944, then sent by the Navy to MIT to study Radar and serve as Lt. jg in the Pacific until 1946. Employed by the Sandia Corporation and RCA, then moved to Hollywood in 1957 to implement technical standards for the new color television industry. From 1960, he worked for NBC and won an "Emmy" award in 1965 for his work on "Bonanza", retiring as Director of Tape and Film Post Production in 1988. He then volunteered teaching music in schools, and was recipient of West Hollywood's 1st annual "Apple" award in 2000. He played bassoon with the Burbank Symphony for 36 years, and the L.A. Doctor's Symphony for 11 years. A memorial concert to be held at St. Mark's Church in Altadena at 5 PM on Dec. 3. Private burial in Albuquerque, New Mexico in December. In lieu of flowers, please contribute in his name to the Los Angeles Doctor's Symphony Orchestra, P.O. Box 27353, Los Angeles, CA 90027-0353.
