Eva Chorub Obituary

1926 - 2018 Eva Chorub passed away peacefully at her home in Beverly Hills surrounded by her family on November 10, 2018. She was 92. She was born on August 12, 1926, one of four children in Ozorkow, Poland. During WWII, her family was torn apart by the Nazis, forced from their home and into the Ozorkow and Lodz ghettoes. She was later transported to Auschwitz. She survived by a combination of determination and luck. After the war, she returned to her hometown and learned the rest of her family had been murdered. During her homecoming, Eva met Isaac who had also survived the Nazi concentration camps. It was love at first sight. They wed and had a son, Jacob, and immigrated to the United States in 1949. They worked hard in their new homeland, toiling and saving with any available jobs. When they lived in Boyle Heights, she worked in a dry cleaner. After moving to the Fairfax area in 1956, she became a union clerk in a bakery. She was blessed when her second child, daughter Judith, was born. In the early 1960s, Eva and her husband Isaac took a chance with their savings by opening a wholesale clothing store in DTLA, pioneers in the Fashion District of today. Eva had a keen eye for fashion and they were very successful. They were able to parlay that success, and eventually dove fully into the business of real estate and development. With her keen sense of design and sparking personality, her contributions were also integral to that business. Eva and her husband Isaac were true partners, blending their talents, always working hard and always working together. This year they celebrated 72 years of happy marriage. Truly, they lived the American Dream. In 1975 Eva and Isaac, with other concentration camp survivors in Los Angeles, founded the charitable Lodzer organization. She was not only vibrant and spirited, but also insightful, charming, talented, and beautiful. She is survived by her beloved husband Isaac, son Jacob, daughter Judith and granddaughter Sarah Pesa. She was interred in Mount Sinai Memorial Park in Los Angeles on November 13, 2018. The family thanks Dr. Whiteman, Dr. Ostrzega, and Dr. Szumski and the excellent team at Skirball Hospice for their thoughtful care in her last days.
