Gerald Godfrey Obituary

May 12, 2007
Born in Pasadena. Raised in Pasadena and Sierra Madre, California. One of four children born to Albert E. Godfrey and Wilma L. Preston. Joined the US Navy and served from January 1959 to January 1965. He was stationed at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, Calif., and aboard the USS Midway and the USS Bennington. Married Carole Diane Cunningham October 2, 2004. Preceded in death by brother, Donald; sister, Patricia. Survived by wife, Carole Cunningham-Godfrey of Arcadia; brother, Robert Godfrey of Arcadia.
A self-employed wallpaper hanger/renovator, his greatest joy was bringing color to people's lives while transforming a house into a home. His many interests included visiting his extended family, golfing, running marathons, enjoying opera and completing crossword puzzles in ink.
A grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous, Jerry was in his 18th year of sobriety. Among his greatest joys were participating in AA meetings and supporting others in maintaining their sobriety. His warmth, caring and leadership impacted everyone .
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 24 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 740 S. Shamrock Ave., Monrovia 626-358-1166. Arrangements through Chapel of Remembrance Funeral Home, 500 S. First Ave., Arcadia 626-447-8148.
