James Usich Obituary

James Stephen Usich, Esquire
James, known to his friends and family as Jim, was born East Hartford, Connecticut in 1946, later moving to nearby Avon, then onto Miami, Florida, in 1964 to pursue a law degree at The University of Miami. James graduated with a BBA Degree in 1968 and JD degree in 1971 and was successfully admitted to the Bar in 1971.
James went on to practice law in Florida for over 50 years, making partner at a highly regarded Miami law firm and eventually starting his own practice. Jim took pride in trying a multitude of cases for many prominent companies and also enjoyed mentoring others in his industry, often serving as a speaker at legal seminars.
He married his late wife, Hope, in 1983 and welcomed twin daughters Lindsay and Ashley in 1984.
Jim loved his family, friends and his Connecticut roots, with many happy memories made back in Avon for holidays and summers with his siblings, parents and extended family.
Jim cherished his mother and father Louis and Philippa very much - after moving them from Avon to Miami, he continued to care for them in his Florida home until their passing in the early 2000s.
An avid golfer, James learned from his skilled father, Louis Sr., and was active in many tournaments and amateur championships, even blazing the trail as the Golf Club of Avon first's junior golf champion. After his move to Florida, Jim kept up with his game and continued golfing competitively.
He lived in Florida until 2023, when he moved to Southern California to be closer to his family and grandchildren. James passed away on May 1st, 2025, with his daughters by his side.
His profound effect on those he loved and those who loved him will continue on. He will be forever missed and remembered in our hearts and memories.
Jim is survived sister Bonnie Usich; brother Louis (Buddy) Usich, Jr and wife Nancy Usich; children Ashley Usich-Iha, husband James Iha, children Henry and Hazel; Lindsay Warner and husband Brian Warner; nephew Louis (Jed) Usich, wife Victoria Usich and sons Nathaniel, Zachary, and Alexander; nephew Jonathan Usich, wife Larisa Usich and children Evelyn and Nicholas; niece Kristen Usich and husband Curt, children Colton and Cassidy; nephew Shawn Orr, wife Marci and children Nickolas and Anna; nephew Timothy Orr, wife Jenifer, sons Benjamin and Dylan; Lara Orr; niece Marley Reilly, husband Gabe Reilly and daughter Leia; stepdaughter Lori Vergara, husband Peter and children Lily and James, plus many friends and colleagues.
