Jerome Weissman Obituary

Jerome Howard Weissman, born in the Bronx, New York, on March 30, 1940, the first child of Gertrude Weissman (Wyle) and Bernard Weissman (George Wyle), died peacefully at home in Playa Del Rey, surrounded by family, on Sunday, October 9th at 82 years of age.
A diligent and hardworking student, Jerry received his bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from UCLA. He spent his entire career at Litton Industries and retired as a Senior Vice President, having worked on contracts with the US Department of Defense and in private industry.
Jerry found immense joy in volunteer work after retirement, supporting Executive Service Corps, coaching and mentoring nonprofit executive directors, serving on boards at OPICA, Leo Baeck Temple, and Sing Sing Sing. He was also deeply involved in his work with Charles Drew University, mentoring the medical school senior faculty and staff, consulting on the development of a fully-accredited nursing school. Additionally, Jerry created a strategic five-year plan with faculty and staff at Hebrew Union College, Jewish Institute of Religion. He was generous with his time, knowledge, and compassion.
Jerry was an open-minded man with a deep heart, and he loved unconditionally. His intelligence, patience, and sense of humor were always present. He shared an affinity for games with his father and spent many happy hours playing Scrabble, hearts, Trivial Pursuit, and bridge with family and friends. He also inherited a love of music from his father, listening to and enjoying an incredible range of genres, from classical, bluegrass, great American songbook, country to rock and roll.
Jerry considered himself lucky to live at the beach, where he taught his kids to bodysurf. He loved reading, marathon running, biking with the Los Angles Cycling Club, and taking casual rides on bike paths through local beach cities. He treasured semi-annual family visits from his children and grandchildren, playing board games, enjoying good food, and watching the kids during touch football on the beach. He played guitar and loved singing with his wife Judy, the choir at Leo Baeck Temple, and Sing Sing Sing.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Judith Farber Weissman, his children Jennifer Weissman (Stephen Kay) and Evan Weissman (Karen Cheever), his sister Judy Mandler (Ed), his grandchildren Alex, Zane, Gabriel and Rachel, nephew Adam Levy (Ritsuko Shibutani), stepdaughters Trisha Sarkisian (Keith) and Amy Farber, their children, (Jerry's step grandchildren) Wyatt, Sadie, Amelia, Charlotte, Pippa and Atticus, many friends and family members, and former wife Susan Weissman.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to OPICA Adult Day Care Center, Leo Baeck Temple, or Executive Service Corps.

I will always remember Jerry from our times together at Sing, Sing, Sing. His warmth and gentle humor. His storytelling about his father and singing duets with his loving wife.
I remember them once being introduced as " Judy Farber Weissman and Jerry Farber Weissman."
Jerry was, indeed, part of the happiest moments of my life.
