Judith Shapiro Obituary

August 30, 1938 - November 11, 2017 Judith Salkow Shapiro, Esq. died peacefully after a short but difficult battle with pancreatic cancer on November 11 at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, CA at the age of 79. Judith is survived by her daughter, Susan Salkow Shapiro Moss and her husband Michael, sons Kenneth Salkow-Shapiro and Howard Shapiro, grandchildren Ben Shapiro, Matilda, Clara, and Ruthie Moss and brother Alan Salkow and his wife Sandy. She is preceded in death by her husband Martin Stephen Shapiro (September 25, 2017). Judith was born on August 30, 1938 in Los Angeles, California to Matilda and Irving Salkow. She graduated from UCLA in 1958 with duel degrees in English and Music. Upon graduation She married Martin, the love of her life, in 1958. Judith began her first career of teaching high school music and English immediately, and continued teaching until 1973. In the fall of 1975 Judith interned with Justice Stanley Mosk of the California Supreme Court and in 1976 she graduated Law School with honors from UCLA. After becoming the first woman associate, and then first women partner at a prestigious Century City law firm, Judith went on to successfully partner with Ira Lurvey, practicing family law until his death in 2003. Judith continued to practice law until the time of her death. Judith was passionate about her work. When not working Judy loved music, the arts, traveling, food, and her family, all when enjoyed in the company of her dear husband of 59 years. Her passion for traveling took her and Martin to the South of France every summer, and her love of the arts kept her coming to the symphony and the theater as a patron throughout her life. Her children remember her as a driven mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals, and only wanted the best for each of them, teaching them about life itself. A funeral is scheduled for 2:00pm, Thursday, November 15 at Mt. Sinai, Hollywood Hills with a reception to follow. Rabbi David Wolpe will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Judith's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Tower Cancer Research Foundation at 8767 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 401, Beverly Hills, 90211. https://www.towercancer.org/

My deepest condolences to the Shapiro family. They welcomed us into their lives as we were newcomers to the desert. We thank you for the many invitations to all your beautiful parties and Passover seders - it's hard to believe you and Marty have gone to heaven. With love from Ethan Weiss, a high school friend of Ken's, mother Melanie, and the rest of the Haber-Weiss family.
