KC Cooper Obituary

August 26, 1937 - January 24, 2016 KC grew up in Westwood and went to Westwood Grammar School. KC attended Black Foxe Military Academy where he excelled on the Swim Team. KC was very active at the LA Athletic Club. As a boy, he and his Dad won several Father and Son Events and KC continued to be very active at LAAC where he played handball for many years. He went on to Santa Monica College, where he swam backstroke under Johnny Joseph. KC received an athletic scholarship for Water Polo to San Jose State. He was voted Most Valuable Player and All American in Water Polo. Throughout the summers in college, KC was a Los Angeles City Lifeguard. During his high school and college years, KC surfed SteamerLane down through Trestles. After college, KC began a career in Medical Sales. KC eventually opened his own Medicare contracting company, which became KC Medical and is now a full service Medical Supply Store in Hawthorne. KC is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carla, his sons David and Kevin, his sisters Diane and Joyce, and nieces and nephews. We remember KC's strong faith in God, his loving spirit, warm friendly smile and his happy outlook on life. The Memorial Service will be held at Westchester Lutheran Church on Sunday, January 31, 11:30 am at 7831 Sepulveda, L.A. Please send gifts in memory of KC to Westchester Lutheran Church.

Dear Carla... what a beautiful memorial for KC. We learned so much about him that we didn't know in the 25 years he has been in your life! As we said before, please do not hesitate to call us for ANYTHING! We love you and wish you all the strength in the world to get through this.

Thinking of you, Carla, and your family during this difficult time. We were so sorry to read this news this morning. Although we have been out of touch for years, we still have such fond memories of KC and the time we spent together. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

My heart goes out to KC's family and I send my sincere condolences to them. I remember KC during his lifeguard years at SM Beach. His sister Diane and I were good friends at SMCC. We lost track of one another many year's ago, and seeing KC's obituary brought back fond memories as well as the possibility of reconnecting with Diane again. It would be such a blessing to hear from her. She knew me as Susie Richardson, now Susanne Belcher. I can be called or texted at 818-825-0700 or emailed at [email protected].

It was my pleasure to be a Water Polo and Swimming teammate of KC at San Jose State in the late 1950's. Our immediate bond turned into a friendship that lasted for 59 years. KC was not only an outstanding water polo player and swimmer but a sincere and compassionate friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with his lovely wife, Carla and his family. Memories of time with KC are indelible and shall remain in my heart forever.
