Owen Joseph "Joe" Haggerty

Joe Haggerty, beloved brother, friend, and uncle passed away on June 30, 2025 in Santa Clarita, California. Born in Los Angeles, October 23, 1958, Joe was diagnosed at age 3 with a hearing impairment and began treatment and therapy with hearing aids and the help of the HEAR Center and Dr. Ciwa Griffiths. Joe was also lucky enough to have an electrician/hobbyist in his Uncle John who supplied him with bespoke hearing aids for much of his childhood and teens. Blessed with a remarkable intellect, Joe excelled at Mark Kepler Elementary and Woodrow Wilson Junior High in Glendale, California. Growing up in a household that appreciated good music, Joe began collecting records and turned his younger siblings onto many of his favorites. He loved playing neighborhood sports at nearby Nibley Park and his athleticism and sportsmanship were much admired. He thrived under the tutelage of the Jesuits at Loyola High and the University of Santa Clara, graduating from the latter with a math major and a minor in computer science. Following graduation, Joe spent almost 20 rewarding years in the IT department at Lockheed. Later, Joe worked almost a decade for Level 3, also in IT roles. Living for many years in Woodland Hills, Joe began semi-retirement in 2009, working many freelance assignments as a network specialist and high-speed internet installer for various companies across the USA and even worked for the census bureau in 2020. Joe also took up salsa dancing and was caught regularly cutting up the floor. The Haggerty Family is grateful to Joe's friend, Mark Engels, for supporting Joe following a stroke in 2023. Joe is survived by his mother, Sandra, and 5 siblings, Hugh, Vincent, Francis "Cisco", Julie Maglione and Caitlin Ritchey, along with 10 nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration is planned for August 16 with a funeral mass on Joe's birthday, October 23. Please contact the family for details.
