R. Gauldin Obituary
GAULDIN, R. Jackson R. Jackson Gauldin (Jack), who was looking forward to celebrating his 80th birthday in September, passed away while anticipating a friendly game of tennis on the Smith Valley Tennis Courts on August 5, 2005.
Jack was born September 16, 1925 in Whittier, CA where he was raised and attended local schools, graduating from Whittier High School. He completed the Navy's V-12 training program and received his naval commission in October 1945. During his assignment at Pearl Harbor, HI, he served as a Judge Advocate before the General Court Martial Board and received a good introduction to the legal system. Upon his return from the Pacific theater, he attended Whittier College and USC Law School. In Whittier he raised his family of three children and was active in the Whittier First Friends Church. He established a law firm with partner Eric Burton, and over his career served as President of the Whittier Bar Association, Trustee of the Los Angeles Bar, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Marymount Palos Verdes College. Jack and his wife, Kathy moved to Smith Valley, NV in 1991 to enjoy a more rural lifestyle, which he reflected in his art and music. His many friends will remember that he was active in the Smith Valley community and served as Judge Pro Tem at the Smith Valley Justice Court. Jack enjoyed his retirement by playing tennis, riding horses, flying Birmingham Roller Pigeons, and singing in the Methodist Church choir. He maintained a deep loyalty and friendship to his Navy group by participating in reunions every two years. Jack and his quiet strength will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him, including his wife, Kathy Gauldin; former wife Virginia Gauldin; three children Anne Gauldin (Les Nakashima), Paula Farrington (Greg), Dan Gauldin (Sue); stepson Steve Bigler; and four grandchildren Jeff, Sam, Roberta and Lianna who loved him as "Papa". Jack was also well-loved by his in-laws Frank and Velma Pope and Otis and Dotty Jones. A memorial service and celebration of Jack's life will begin at 1:00 PM on Sunday, September 4, 2005 at the Smith Valley United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jack's memory to the Smith Valley United Methodist Church Building Fund, 44 Rivers Road, Smith, NV 89430.
