William Neff SCARFF

August 20, 1958 - November 22, 2014 William Neff "Bill" Scarff, Jr., 56, passed away at his home on November 22, 2014. He was born August 20, 1958 in Dayton, Ohio, to William N. Scarff, Sr. and Jane Nelson Scarff. He attended The Ohio State University for his undergraduate degree in horticulture, Wright State University for his MBA, and graduated with his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California Law Center in 1991. Prior to attending law school and during the timeframe of achieving his MBA, he joined the family legacy at Scarff's Nursery (circa 1889), growing the landscape department from inception to one of the most well-respected in the region. Bill commenced his law career by joining Pillsbury Madison & Sutro, transitioning in-house with Allergan, where he became responsible for all litigation, including intellectual property, commercial disputes, and products liability. He married Maureen Meehan Aplin and was her devoted husband. He was the devoted father of Jonathan Ryan Scarff and Connor James Scarff, and was the caring step-father to Chase Palmer Aplin and Allison Riley Aplin. An avid athlete, he coached his sons in 15 Laguna Niguel Little League baseball seasons. He completed 16 marathons, including the Boston Marathon three times. He enjoyed running, swimming, skiing, hiking, tennis, and golf. He is survived by this loving wife, Maureen, two sons, Jonathan Ryan Scarff and Connor James Scarff, two stepchildren, Chase Palmer Aplin and Allison Riley Aplin, brother Peter Nelson Scarff (Cindy), a sister Carrie Allene Scarff (Aimee), his father, William N. Scarff, his nephews Peter Nelson, Jr. and Henry Howard, and a niece, Anna Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Nelson Scarff. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 28, 2014, at St. Edwards the Confessor Catholic Church in Dana Point, California with Father Claude William officiating with a reception following. A private interment will follow. Advantage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
