Beverly Jean Phillips Horn

Beverly Jean Phillips Horn 1931-2009 Beverly Jean Phillips Horn passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2009 after several years of declining health. She was born on October 13, 1931 in Alex, Oklahoma and had lived in Long Beach since 1946 when she and her mother, Gladys Phillips, came to California for a visit. Beverly enrolled at Long Beach Polytechnic High School and soon after decided that she and her mom didn't need to return to Oklahoma! After graduation from Poly, on a lark, she stopped by the "Associated Phone Company" for a job interview; she was hired on the spot and worked in a variety of resp onsible positions for the next 35 years, retiring from General Telephone in 1987. In the years since their retirement, she and husband, Ronald Horn, have enjoyed travel, a variety of hobbies; and their son and grandsons. Bev and Ron enjoyed many lovely, special parties with dear friends. In 2006, Beverly and Ron celebrated their 45th Wedding Anniversary at a wonderful party with family and friends that was presented by the Steel Magnolias at the home of Anthony Gagliardi. Beverly was a generous supporter of several local groups, including, St. Mary's Hospice Auction, Musical Theatre West, Footlighters, and Dramatic Allied Arts Guild. She was also a member of Theta Sigma Phi sorority and GTE Pioneers Club. Beverly was known for her quick wit, sense of humor, unique hats, gorgeous jewelry, and incredible memory. In recent years, Bev and Ron enjoyed lunch out daily at several local restaurants and became friends with many employees. Her family would like to extend their appreciation to all her friends at Hof' s Hut in Los Altos, Polly's, Mimi's, and Super Mex in Belmont Shore. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Horn; son, Sean Vail Horn; grandsons, Sean-Michael and Thomas Lee Horn of North Carolina; Frank and Ramona Marshall of Lindsey, Oklahoma, the Robert Pope family of Oklahoma City, and the Bennie English family of San Clemente, Ron's family, and many, many dear friends. A memorial service will be held for her on Friday, January 16, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at the Westminster Memorial Park Chapel, 14801 Beach B oulevard, Westminster, California. The memorial service will be followed by interment. At 11:00 a.m. there will be a reception at Old Ranch Country Club, 3901 Lampson, Seal Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Beverly's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or any other worthy organization.
