Marjorie Roberts Obituary

Marjorie Underhill Roberts

Marjorie Underhill Roberts, a long-time resident of Long Beach, California, died Saturday the 6th of December at Bixby Knolls Towers six days after her 97th birthday.

Born on November 30, 1917 in Council Grove, Kansas, Marjorie was one of five children born to George and Fleta Underhill. She and all of her siblings graduated from Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Mathematics in 1939.

Marjorie moved to Long Beach, California in 1941 where she met her husband of 24 years, Eric John Roberts. She lost her husband in 1969, but together they had two children. Sadly, she lost her daughter, Vickie R. Ursery in 2007 to cancer.

Marjorie was extremely generous with her time and money. She often volunteered at her church, Los Altos United Methodist Church and continuously donated to her favorite charity, American Cancer Society. She enjoyed reading, completing crosswords, and assembling puzzles. She also loved interacting with her friends and listening to music.

She is survived by her son, Gary Roberts, four grandchildren - Eric Roberts, Kendra Day, Daniel Ursery, and Kelly Wight, and her five great-children, all of whom live in southern California, and brought her great joy. Please sign the guestbook at www.presstelegram.com/obits.

Marj was a dear friend for over 40 years.
As a member of the "Crazy 8's" we shared some wonderful times together, as well as breakfast every Thursday morning. I shall miss her greatly.

Marge was a very wonderful, intelligent and kind person. She loved her family so much. I was always blessed to see the latest pictures of her great grand babies during my visits. Marge will leave a big hole in the universe that no one else can fill.

I feel privileged to have been her friend.
