Nancy Fiske Obituary

Nancy Lee Fiske

Las Cruces - Nancy Lee Burks Fiske became a beautiful angel on April 29th. She was born on February 18, 1938 and lived a wonderful life. Her family celebrates the woman she was; an extraordinary wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. Her laughter and love will remain in our hearts forever, and we thank God for such a gift.

After graduating from Socorro High School in Socorro, New Mexico, she attended Texas Teachers State College for Women, in Denton, TX and then New Mexico State University, in Las Cruces, from which she would graduate. At NMSU she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority and would be elected homecoming queen. It was at NMSU where she would meet the love of her life; William Clay Fiske Jr. When she first saw him at the cafeteria door, she told her best friend, "I'm going to marry that guy". They married on September 5, 1959. A few years later they relocated to El Paso, Texas, which would be their forever home.

Nancy did not work while her two children grew. Instead, she involved herself in everything her children did. She was a Brownie leader, Cub Scout den mother, Sunday school teacher, PTA and Band Booster officer. Once her children graduated from high school, she began working for Southwestern Industrial Contractors and Riggers, Inc. Nancy spent her free time by joining a bridge club and being a member of the Las Amigas study club.

Nancy loved being around her family and friends. She was a ray of sunshine to everyone that knew her. She loved playing the piano and adored cats and bunny rabbits.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill C Fiske, Jr., her father Garnett Burks Sr., her mother Marian Burks and her brother Garnett Burks Jr. She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Anne Garcia (Eddie) and grandchildren, Kendall, Marshal, and Jason; her son William Clay Fiske III (Kathleen) and grandchild Liam, cousins, nephews and nieces. To her grandchildren, she was simply Nonnie.

A celebration of her life will be May 17th, 2021 at 11:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church on 1340 Murchison Dr., El Paso, Texas 79902. Family & friends are invited.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fiske Construction Engineering Scholarship to the NMSU Foundation, P.O. Box 3590, Las Cruces, NM 88003-8001.

Very heartbroken that you are not here. You were always nice to me and my family, my kids and I will miss you dearly. I always enjoyed our conversations at work. I know you are happy now being next to Mr. Fiske. I will always have you in my heart. Love you Jennifer.

I love and miss you so much.
We worked together and we became close friends. You would tell me that I was your best friend and you mine.
We had nicknames for each other, I was Carmoni and I called you Weta. I still can't believe you are not here but I know you are happy now that you are with the love of your life. You will always and forever be in my heart ❤
Love Carmen.
