Scott Allan Ramsey [Jan. 24, 1941 - June 28, 2008]
The family and friends of Scott A. Ramsey, 67, deeply regret to announce his death on June 28, 2008 of a heart attack in Farmington, NM. He is survived by his wife of forty four years Linda; two children, Sean and Nan; three grandchildren Scott, Christopher and Brianna Baker and two brothers Ross and Charles.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on January 24, 1941, Scott moved to Los Alamos during his elementary school years and graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1959. He earned a B.A. in music education from UNM and an M.A. in Music Performance from U of A in Flagstaff, AZ.
Scott retired from public school band directing after 26 years and in 2003, was inducted into the New Mexico Music Educator Association's Hall of Fame. After retirement, he opened Ramsey Music and Art Studio where he taught private lessons, operated a stained glass shop and composed and arranged music for many of the groups in which he continued to play. He helped organize and performed with Brassworks 4, an accomplished brass quartet that toured the country for almost nine years. He has more than 70 works in publication.
A memorial service organized by family and friends will present a musical tribute to Scott Ramsey at 10:00 a.m. August 6, 2008 at the San Juan College Little Theater in Farmington, NM.

I was privileged to teach Scott's daughter, Nan. I didn't know Scott well but I do know that any parent capable of producing such a fine daughter must have something going for him. My sincere condolences to the family and especially to Nan.

Mr. Ramsey was my band director at Court Junior High. Even though I played one of those silly woodwinds and not a real instrument like the trumpet, he was still a wonderful teacher and made learning a fun experience. Those days in band at Court were some of the best I had in school.

I was saddened to read of Scotts passing. He came to Deming to teach trumpet in the sixties. His lessons were special and I have always looked at him as one of a few that inspired me to continue on to college. Although I did not continue to be a music major I did complete my education as a speech therapist. Music got me to college and I will never forget that inspiration.

One of the pleasures of being an administrator at Farmington High School in the late 70's and early 80's was getting to know Scott as well as Chuck.(I already knew Ross.) Scott was a lot of fun to be around, his bands always performed well, and his kids had fun being in his bands. He and our chorus director John Peed were a pair to draw to, and I believe Scott left a real legacy for all those who knew him. He will be missed.

Mr Ramsey was my band director and mentor at Court Junior High-Las
Cruces, New Mexico in 1967-68. I am forever indebted to him for instruction on the trumpet.
Some of the best memories of my
youth, were under his tutelage.
My thoughts and prayers go out to
the entire Ramsey family
