Steve Martinez Obituary

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Steve Anthony "Gato" Martinez on Saturday, December 27, 2009. He was born April 08, 1982 to Diane J. and Michael A. Martinez in Hobbs, NM. "Gato" as he was fondly known to his family and friends was a very caring, loving, fun, outgoing and respected young man. Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Christina "Gorgeous" Martinez; two beautiful sons, Steve Anthony and Angel Ray Martinez; four stepchildren, Javier, Tomas "Sumo", Monique "Long-lost daughter" Avelar and Elijah "Son" Sweat; his parents, Diane J. and Michael A. Martinez; two brothers, Jeremy Martinez and Michael A. Martinez and his daughter, Sierra M. Martinez as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his uncle, Johnny Romero; aunt, Sandra Rios; maternal grandparents, Michael D. Rosales and Nora Rios; paternal grandparents, Florencio S. and Cecilia M. Martinez and cousin, Juan "Mousey" Trujillo.

Visitation for "Gato" will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 07, 2010 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where the Funeral Service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Cremation will follow and inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date.

I'm very thankful that the Lord blessed me by bringing Gato into my world. My brother, you helped change my life and for that I could never forget you....until we meet again my friend. Cristina we pray for you every day and know that the same Almighty God who gave you the love of your life can also mend a broken heart. May His Angels watch over all of Gato's Family,Friends, and Loved ones.

It saddens our hearts to hear and read the news on the loss of our nephew Steve. My prayers are for the parents of Steve, Michael & Diane, brothers Michael and Jeremy. All of you were taught the ways of the Lord by your Father/Grandfather /Florencio (Lencho, as many people knew him) and Mother/Grandmother Cecilia. You were raised to trust in the Lord and allow Him to guide your footsteps. My prayer is that this will bring you closer as a family and turn your life over to God as in the past. It is never to late. I pray that God will keep you safe and help you all in this time of sorrow. We may be hundreds of miles apart but in prayer we are close. We have not seen each other since the passing of our dad in 1997. But we were blessed to see Steve during the memorial service we had for our mother, Steve’s grandmother, Cecilia Martinez in Alamogordo, New Mexico May of 2000. Steve has now departed this life and I pray that the void that has been left in your lives will be filled with God’s love and care and good memories of Steve growing up. He will be missed. Having Christ in our heart and life, gives us hope to see Steve again. He is not lost for we all know he now rests until the appearing of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I hope that some day my family will get to meet Steven’s wife, Christina and children. You now have and have always had an extended family in Tennessee. Uncle Isaac, Aunt Anna and Cousin Mason. I pray that God will keep you safe and help you find someone that can walk, talk, and help you in this time of sorrow. There are other family members that feel the same way as I do. God Bless you. Our deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Steve was a great guy and he will forever be missed!!! Christina, I am so sorry for your loss... Steve always told me that no matter what you guys went threw that he loved you... I always knew that what he said was true, I also know that till this day he loves you deeply and that he remains with with you for eternity... Although Steve was my cousin, we didn't know each other all too well. When we did see each other there was always a hello. When I found out that my Best Friend Christina was marrying MY cousin, I was excited. She was so in love. We will all miss him and never forget him! From the time Christina introduced me to Steve he treated me as though he had known me for as long as she had. He was a very outgoing person who was always smiling and no matter where he saw you, he always made sure to say hi. He will be greatly missed and always remembered. I am very sorry for the loss of my brother in law. I hope that my sister will find comfort in knowing that Steve had a lot of friends and loved ones who really truly cared for him. He will be greatly missed and my heart goes out to my sister who has lost her lover and her friend.
