David Boltz Obituary

David G. Boltz
Lower Saucon Twp.
David G. Boltz, 78, formerly of Bethlehem, died June 10, 2016. He was the husband of Marie (Cohen) Boltz, to whom he was married for 57 years. Born in Lebanon, he was the only child of the late Edgar and Dorothy (Walborn) Boltz. Following graduation from Lebanon High School in 1955, he received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University in 1959. He then joined the Research Department of Bethlehem Steel, working primarily in the field of steelmaking process control. In 1971, he transferred to Bethlehem's Environmental Quality Control Department where he held a variety of positions in the field of solid and hazardous waste management. During the environmental part of his career, he was Bethlehem's representative on the American Iron and Steel Institute's Solid Waste Committee and served as the Committee's Chairman for nine years. In the '70s, he was heavily involved in the initial development of standards for resource recovery with the American Society for Testing and Materials. Dave retired from Bethlehem Steel in 1993 to serve as the Business Administrator of First Presbyterian Church in Bethlehem for nearly seven years.
At Penn State, he was a member of Phi Mu Delta social fraternity and Phi Mu Alpha music honorary fraternity. He was also a member of the Penn State Concert Blue Band. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bethlehem where he served on the Board of Deacons and on the Session. He was Clerk of Session for nine years.
His most recent involvement with the church was playing the saxophone with the contemporary worship team, and serving as Chair of the Fund Committee and a member of the Planned Giving Committee. In the '70s, Dave served two terms on the Board of the Bethlehem Area Council of Churches, and then served as the Council's treasurer from 2004 to 2006. From 2005 to 2007, he was the Treasurer of the Homeowners Association for Four Seasons at Saucon Valley Condo Association and from 2007 to 2009 he served as the Association's President. In 2006, he was elected Treasurer of Lehigh Presbytery, a position he held through 2015. From 2008 to 2010 he served on a Presbytery Administrative Commission involved with the Korean Church of the Lehigh Valley. In 2003 he became involved in tutoring public school students, initially with the Communities in Schools program in Easton, and since 2004 at Saucon Valley High School. He was a member of the Tuesday Morning Bible Study Group. He and his wife Marie served as foster parents for teen-aged girls in the early '70s, were involved in First Presbyterian's outreach program for church renewal, participated in a church Koinonia Group, and enjoyed playing bridge together since college days.
Dave had the privilege of being involved in many organizations and activities during his lifetime, and all that he accomplished was for the praise and glory of his Lord, Jesus Christ.
In addition to his wife Marie, he is survived by daughter Cynthia, her husband Gus Coutsouros, and their children, Anthony and Theodore of Mt. Kisco, N.Y.; daughter Susan, her husband Thomas Gaynor, and their children Ryan and Gwyneth, of Whippany, N.J.; foster daughter Nancy and her husband Cary Quintrell of Mifflinville; and Nancy's daughter Shannon, her husband Rich Klouser, and their daughter Hannah of Hegins.
The Service Witnessing to the Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, 2344 Center St., Bethlehem, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of First Presbyterian Church, 2344 Center St., Bethlehem, PA 18017.

Dave and Marie were a model couple and spiritual giants in our k group. Of the many discussions we had about scripture and the Christ-like life, one comment stands out. In discussing why we work hard to be more Christ-like on earth when all we need is to believe to be admitted to heaven, Dave used a musical analogy. He said, if you practice and learn about music, you will appreciate even more the beauty of the orchestra. We rejoice that Dave is fully appreciating the spiritual orchestra in heaven right now. He had many questions to ask when he got there and we're happy he is getting the answers he sought. Our condolences to his faithful wife Marie and family and to all the many people he touched with his kindness, warmth, humor, and many acts of service. He will be missed beyond measure.

Marie,
Dave leaves a very big hole in all our hearts.
He was such an incredible man.
I rejoice for Dave while hurting to let go of him.
I will miss not getting to have him play clarinet in the orchestra.
