John Austin Obituary

John E. Austin HUMMELSTOWN John E. Austin, 76, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Springfield, Vt., on May 18, 1936, he was the son of the late Elwood N. and Ruth L. Williams Austin. John retired after 38 years of service as a machinist from the Hershey Foods Corporation, and was a finished carpenter. He was an U.S. Coast Guard veteran. John was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hershey Ward. He was a charter member of the FFO, Inc.; member of the Chocolate Workers Union Local 464; former member of the Hummelstown Field & Stream Association; and was formerly active in the Boy Scouts of America. John was a gentleman farmer who enjoyed tractors, motorcycles, and cars. A jack of all trades he designed, built, and made things out of wood, tin, and other metals. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita F. DeCelle Austin, on March 26, 1986. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Pamella D. Nowicki Austin, whom he married on June 24, 1989; two daughters, Deborah A. Fredrickson widow of Mark F. of Decatur, AL, and Penny L. Keller wife of Stan C. of Lebanon; two sons, David J. Austin of Elizabethtown, and John A. Austin of Hummelstown; three brothers, Edward Austin husband of Shirley, and Andrew Austin husband of Judy, both of Claremont, NH, and Tim Austin husband of Diane of Perkinsville, VT; two sisters, Anne Demers wife of George of East Thetford, VT, and Elaine Crossman wife of Phil of Vinalhaven, ME; 13 grandchildren, Matthew Fredrickson husband of Clarissa, Elisa Beckman wife of Jeff, Emily Kim wife of Sung, Melisa Speed wife of Jacob, John Fredrickson, Anna Judkins wife of Nathan, Ammon Fredrickson, Ciara Davis, Korin Gingrich wife of Christian, Douglas Austin husband of Rebekah, Jennifer Austin, Scott Austin and Brandi Austin; 11 great grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Jeane C. Nowicki and brother-in-law, Drew Nowicki both of Hummelstown; and a sister-in-law, Vicki Stover of Mechanicsburg; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4788 Union Deposit Road, Harrisburg, with Bishop Braxton K. Voyles officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Middletown Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to the viewings on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 W. Main St., Hummelstown, and Friday in the church from 10 a.m. until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be sent to the National Parkinson's Foundation, 1501 North West 9th Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136; or to the American Cancer Society, Capital Region Unit, 2 Lemoyne Drive, Suite 101, Lemoyne, PA 17043.
