Hila Bates Obituary

Hila R. Bates, 93, of Distant, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Clarion Health and Rehabilitation in Clarion.

Born September 16, 1930, in Mayport, she was the daughter of Owen and Emma (Doverspike) Shreckengost.

She married Richard E. Bates Sr., on August 22, 1947. He passed away on March 14, 1999.

She was an active member of Distant Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir, knitting, crocheting and cooking. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include a son, Richard "Dick" Bates and wife, Cathy, of New Bethlehem; three grandchildren, Tisha Neiswonger and husband, Scott, Lacy Hoffman and significant other, Alex Smith, and Tobie Bates and wife, Nicole; and 12 great-grandchildren, Dylan (Elissa), Kaeden, Maleah, Gabe, Gavin, Brielle, Braden, Micah, Rowan, Nolan, Saige and Sully.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Maurice, Wayne and Ted; and a sister, Evelyn.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 4 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn, with the Rev. David Westover officiating.

Interment will take place at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Oak Ridge.
