Smiths Station, AL- Mr. Anthony Tyrone Gaines passed away peacefully Saturday at his home at the age of 52.
The beloved son of Mrs. Mable Jenkins London of Columbus and the late Ulysses Gaines, Sr., Anthony was born in Columbus, GA and was a 1982 graduate of Shaw High School. He was of Baptist faith and was attending The Way Church. He was employed for over 20 years with Glover Trucking Co. and was currently employed with U. S. Foods Transportation Service. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Yolanda Boddie and Veronica Craig.
Survivors other than his mother, include: his wife, Keisha Hollinger-Gaines; five children, Anthony "Tyler", Courtney, Kel, Niah and Jaden; one grandson, Cameron; four brothers, Ulysses Gaines, Jr., Larry Gaines (Midge), Melvin Gaines (Vera) and Ronnie Gaines; two sisters, Sabrina Patterson (William) and Valarie Grubbs; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Boddie; mother and father-in-law, Diane Webb and James Hollinger; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Gaines will be Friday, April 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Word of Wisdom Christian Center with interment in Green Acres Cemetery. Evangelist Sherry Method will deliver the eulogy. Visitation is Today, 3 til 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed at progressivefuneralhome.com.

My EUH family has always been treated like family with the Gaine's. We have all been knowing each other since we were little kids and I consider Gooney as one my big brothers. We certainly had great times at Georgetown Elementary. I ran into him back in 1987 downtown Columbus and he remembered who I was and we had a great time talking about the times we had at Georgetown. He will be missed by many.

To hear of the passing of Gonnie was unbelievable, but God doesn't make any mistakes. I had the pleasure of growing up with him and he was such a kind and rare gem. I know he will be deeply missed, but please take comfort in these words, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
