Bert Coker Obituary

Bert Tyrone Coker
September 14, 1955 - May 30, 2023
Columbus, Georgia - Bert Tyrone Coker, 67, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, in his hometown of Columbus, GA. Although we are saddened by his passing, we can't help but celebrate the life of a man who was friendly, generous, and spirited.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Bert was the life of the party in a family that could have thrown one heck of a shindig. As one of 16 children Bert was born September 14, 1955 in Columbus, GA to the late Jeff and Fannie Coker. He grew up surrounded by laughter and love.
Bert was a lifelong learner and graduate of Chattahoochee Valley Community College, where he earned his associate's degree. His interests ranged from fishing to following politics. Bert even ran for mayor once as a write-in candidate.
Bert's love for music was only surpassed by his love for cooking and sharing a meal with friends and family. He could often be found manning the grill and regaling everyone with stories that would leave them in stitches. It was never a dull moment when Bert was around.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Frank, Waldo, Larkin, Greg, Tom, John, Lynn, Bridgette, and Dudley. Surviving siblings include Jane, Maryann, Alice, Bob, Ledon, and Rita. Bert's family extended far beyond his siblings, with countless nieces and nephews, who all knew they could count on Uncle Bert for a good time.
Bert is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Debra Ann Coker, son, Seth Dylan Coker (Joy), grandsons, Seth Dylan Coker II and Joseph Enoch Coker who knew him as "Paw-Paw" they were his pride and joy. He spent countless hours fishing, watching the boys playing sports as well as watching sports with them. Roll Tide and Go Braves!
Above all, Bert was a man of faith. His family takes solace in the knowledge that he was a Christian, and they will see him again in heaven.
