Brandon and Brittany
We share your lost and are praying for you and your family. Coach was a special person and a mentor to so many. Brandon I can say the day we coached together at Columbus High School and you were in center field, I could see him with a big smile on his face. Not only did he coach a lot of kids in this community but that day was special when he was able to coach you. He was a good man and will be missed.

Coach Jenkins was not only a great coach, he was a wonderful teacher. As a freshman, I was a student in one of the classes which he instructed. Coach Jenkins made US Government (a typically mundane subject) not only interesting but engaging and fun. He will be surely missed. Class of 1982

Looking at the hundreds of grieving faces at the visitation for Murphy tonight, I thought how fitting a tribute it was! People representing the coaching fraternity from the past 30 years, former students and players, folks he'd grown up with. Friends one and all. How ironic that a heart attack took Murphy. Looking around that room tonight, I saw people in whose hearts Murphy will remain forever. I can't get over the sight of Brandon and Brittany all grown up. Your dad loved you so much and was so proud of you. Rest in peace, Murphy. Thanks for being one of the most colorful characters I've ever known!

To the Jenkins Family...
Take pride in knowing that Coach Jenkins was truly one of the great ones. All of us that have been blessed to know him knew that although he had a "bad" heart in medical terms, but he certainly had a BIG one! He was never short on that fiery motivation and compassion which lead a number of us from Baker, Columbus and Kendrick to be the individuals we are today. He knew no color, income or gender boundaries - everyone shared in his blessings and curses (at some point). But do know Coach Jenkins is truly great individual that will be forever admired and cherished by his students.

Baker High School is no longer among us as an institution, but because of Coach Murphy Jenkins and his cohorts Coach Dan Ragel and Coach Henry Gresham, it is a legacy.

Much love, Coach from the Class of 1989.

I was shocked and saddened by the news about Murphy. We all roamed the old Rosemont neighborhood about a half century ago.Murphy called and came by the office in Panama City about a year ago, and we got to catch up on the last 40 or so years. My sincere sympathy goes to Susan, Brandon, and Brittany.

Finding out that Murph passed away was a true "kick in the gut" for me. I saw him on the golf course a few months ago when he came back to Columbus for a visit and he looked great. I occassionally played softball and golf with Murph over the years, and followed his coaching career here in Columbus. He always brought a smile to my face whenever I happened to see him around town. He was truly a 'one-of-a-kind' person, and the world needs more people like Murph. I'd like to express my sincere condolences to his family on their loss.

Coach Murphy made a lasting impact on the lives of all of us who developed under his leadership. He was more than a coach and took great interest in us as more than players. He'll be greatly missed but the legacy that is Coach Jenkins lives in all of us who played for him.

Brandon and Brittany:

Your dad was such a special friend: witty, loving, caring, dedicated. I loved him very much. I'm just sorry I had not kept in touch since he moved to Florida. We were all such a family at Baker; he, like so many of us, was devastated when it was closed. His heart was always there. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family as you go through this time. Your good memories will help you so much; keep them alive by reliving those good times often. He would want you to do that.

Coach Jenkins came to Baker between 1974 and 1975 he was young, but a go-getter. He coached football in the beginning of his career. I remember when he first came to Baker the guys on the team tested Coach Jenkins, but he didn't tolerate it and gained respect from jump street. He will always be a Baker Lion first!

Brandon and Brittany my family's prayers are with you and your mom. I pray that GOD will encourage you during this very difficult time in your life. You are both very special and talented young people who were blessed with a father who loved you dearly. It showed thru his clear desire for both of you to excell in whatever you set out to accomplish. You may never know the impact he had upon so many young people and people like myself over the years. His passion for coaching, and mentoring youg people was infectious and made others around him strive to reach that same level. He will be missed but never forgotten. Coaches leave a lasting impression on young men and women that last a lifetime. Your Dad was one who left a positive impression on those he was around. May God bless you all.

Susan,
I was so shocked to hear the news about Murphy. I did not know he had been ill. I remember like it was yesterday all of the fun we had at Arnold Jr. High. These memories will last a lifetime. Remember you had a special brother that we all loved.
Take care and know that I am thinking of you.
