Columbus, GA - Ret. E-7 Ervine B. Smith, 83, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Columbus Hospice. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery with Pastor Mike Reeves officiating. Ervine was born on February 24, 1930 in Frozen Creek, KY to the late Benee Smith and Rena Smith. Ervine served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and Korean Conflict. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine W. Smith, four brothers, five sisters and one grandson. Survivors include his wife of 7 years, Agnes L. Smith, two daughters, Rose Stevens of Ellerslie, GA; Shirley Sokolowski (Joey) of Woodstock, GA; his son Carl Smith of Box Springs, GA; four step daughters, Mary Stansell (Tommy); Martha McCrary (Gene) both of Fortson, GA; Jean Fuller; Kay Moskoycs (George) both of Columbus, GA; three sisters, Judy Bowen of MS; Maggie Beckwith of TN; Mae Fields of KY; three grandchildren, John Stevens, Joseph Sokolowski, Elizabeth Smith; 3 great granddaughters; 4 great grandsons; 12 step grandchildren; 15 step great grandchildren and 6 step great- great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Columbus Hospice 7020 Moon Rd. Columbus, GA 31909.
