To all the Family and extended ASA Family and Friends of Max:

I was deeply saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Max. I want to express my sincere condolences and sympathy with the passing of a great human being and outstanding softball man. I knew Max for several years from ASA Softball, and in 1997 had the privilege of working for him at the Men's Major Industrial Slow Pitch National Championships in Dothan, Alabama. Since 1997 we kept in touch and developed a wonderful friendship. I will never forget the last time we spoke; it was a few months back. My wife and I were at dinner and I got a call from Max who had heard that one of my umpires was having problems with communications regarding his National Tournament Assignment in Montgomery. Max called to see if he could do anything for me and that umpire and wanted to be assured that matters were being taken care of. That was truly Max; an extremely detail man, but more importantly very caring. Max will be greatly missed by the ASA Softball community, but will always be in the warm thoughts of all the ASA Umpires who knew and worked with him. My thoughts and prayers are with the Wilkes Family during these difficult times of grief, but as time passes, the “good times” will constantly be remembered by all. God speed and may Max Rest In Peace.
