Uncle Pat taught me about my Perry roots when I went to visit him in 2003. His grandfather Hartwell Bass Perry and my great grandfather Ben Tarver Perry were brother and they grew up on the Bass-Perry plantation close to Seale Ala..... His son Patrick "Rick" Perry and I are 5th cuzns.... My thoughts with Rick and family.... I too am a Rick Perry but a Richard rather than a Patrick..... Our greatgreatgrandfather Patrick Henry Perry married the daughter of Hartwell Bass. The two of them are noted as planter's in the Alabama biographic dictionary... For them the Bass-Perry plantation was named.... Our family settled and were early founding settlers of Seale after the Creek Indian War of 1836. Hartwell and his dad Sterling Bass fought in the Ga. militia and were allotted 1500 acres each next to each other on the Uchee river.
The Seale Methodist Church was built on Sterling Basses' property. Uncle Pat took me back to that location. All that remains are 6 giant boulder in a rectangle maybe 15x40 feet used as a foundation at one end was a pile of bricks which was the fireplace.....

Uncle Pat a truly awesome American I was honored to have met him and spent time learning of our family. I shared with him many pages of geneaology as he did with me. His first cuzn Tom Hutcheson had done some research and gave it to Pat. Great man unforgetable character
