Suzanne Saunders Obituary

Suzanne Henry Saunders
December 5, 1946 - May 3, 2023
Columbus, Georgia - Suzanne Henry Saunders, 76, of Columbus, Georgia died peacefully Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at her home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Grace Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Chuck Hasty officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church. A private interment will be held following the service at Parkhill Cemetery according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31904.
Suzanne was born December 5, 1946 in Ft. Benning, Georgia to G B and Mary Nell Henry. She graduated from Columbus High School, received scholarships to attend Mercer University for undergraduate and master's with Georgia State University, and was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta. Upon graduation, she began teaching at Norcross High School, and eventually returned home to transition into a successful career at TSYS becoming one of the first female Group Executives and being a pivotal member of the company's growth in its nascent years. During her career and even upon her retirement from TSYS, she only became busier with her involvement in many events such as Riverfest, serving on the board and auxiliary at St. Francis Hospital and as a trustee of Mercer University among many other organizations. She was a faithful member of Grace Presbyterian Church, an avid reader, who often wore out her library card and was often found completing crossword puzzles. Her love of cooking was shared at family gatherings, and her passion for gardening was apparent for all to see. She was devoted to caring for her husband, Ben, loved and adored her family and friends, and was known as a very kind and compassionate person by friends and strangers alike.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Pamela Evans. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Gerald Benjamin Saunders, Jr, her children, Cameron H. A. Saunders (Lucy Pound), Elizabeth Cottrell (Chad), Gerald Saunders III (Jodi), Reynolds Saunders (Tara), all of Columbus, Caroline Smith (Kip) of Whitefish, Montana, 11 grandchildren, and nephew, Clinton Campbell.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Grace Presbyterian Church, 7211 Britton Dr, Columbus, GA 31904, Mercy Med at 3702 2nd Ave, Columbus, GA 31904, Muscogee County Library Foundation at 3000 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA 31906, or the charity of your choice.
