William Calhoun Obituary

Dr. William McCall Calhoun Sr. September 13, 1932- December 29, 2006 ANDERSONVILLE, GA— Dr. William McCall Calhoun, Sr., 74, died Tuesday, December 26, 2006 in Andersonville at the home of his daughter. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 29, 2006 at Calvary Episcopal Church in Americus, Ga. Burial will follow in the Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, Ga. The family will receive friends at Smith Funeral Home in Richland, Ga., on Thursday, December 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. Dr. Calhoun was born September 13, 1932 in Arlington, Georgia, son of the late William Wright and Mary Maude Taylor Calhoun. He was a graduate of North Georgia Military College and the Medical College of Georgia. He had a General Practice and spent most of his career practicing medicine in Southwest Georgia where he was on staff at Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus, Ga., Marion Memorial Hospital in Buena Vista and Stewart Webster Hospital in Richland. He was instrumental in the establishment of the latter two hospitals. He had a great love for and dedication to his patients. He was a Mason, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and a Shriner. He was a Navy veteran. Survivors include the mother of his children, Joanne LeSueur Calhoun Chappell of Americus; three daughters: Anne Calhoun Davis of Ellaville, Ga., Mary Clay Calhoun of Andersonville and Virginia Calhoun and James B. Morton of Athens, Ga.; a son William McCall Calhoun Jr. of Demorest, Ga.; five grandchildren, 3 nephews, several great nieces and great nephews and several cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Magnolia Manor Unit # 4, 2001 South Lee Street, Americus, GA 31709. Smith Funeral Home of Richland, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.

You are in our thoughts and prayers. We have wonderful memories of our Buena Vista Days when all of you children were very small. Mac was a great Sunday School Teacher and a good friend. He was good to us as the Methodist Parsonage Family.
