A.J. Marshall Obituary

A.J. Marshall, 78, passed away Friday at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. A.J. was born August 18, 1927 in San Augustine County to Ranzie Clark Marshall and Malinda Dickerson Marshall, who preceded him in death. He served in the U.S. Navy, was a Class of '48 Texas A&M graduate and earned a Master's Degree from SFA. A.J. married Catherine Anderson in 1946 and resided in Nacogdoches most of his life. He began his career teaching at Navarro Junior College and retired after a long career in the insurance industry working for Lindsey and Newsom Adjusters, Sentry Insurance and Joe Max Green Concepts. A.J. was a member of Fredonia Hill Baptist Church for over fifty years. He had been involved in the Noon Lions Club, GMC Classic Travel Club and was instrumental in starting a Boy Scout Explorer Automobile Chapter, sharing his love of cars with others. He was a GMC Classic Motor Home collector and enjoyed working on and racing fast cars and boats. He was happiest working in his shop, traveling in his motor home and visiting family and friends. In addition to his wife of 59 years, he is survived by daughters; Carla Middlebrook and husband George of Nacogdoches, Linda Mayfield and husband Glynne of Carrollton, grandchildren; Christie Rasberry and husband Robert, George Middlebrook IV and his wife Amy, Andrew Middlebrook and wife Holly, Kyle Marshall Freeman, all of Nacogdoches and Jill Wade and husband Kenny of Frisco; great-grandchildren, Drew and Brett Middlebrook, Mason Rasberry, Garrett Wade and George Middlebrook V. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Memorials may be made to Fredonia Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 1711 South Street, Nacogdoches, Texas 75961. Services are planned for Sunday 2 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Johnny Dammon officiating. The burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
