Abigail Stecewicz Obituary

Abigail "Gail" Stecewicz, 92, of Canton, CT, passed away on February 5, 2024. She was born on May 15, 1931, in New Milford, CT, to the late Charles W. and Gwendolyn (Todd) Treat. Gail was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Stecewicz.

Gail graduated from Bates College in 1953 and went on to receive a Master degree in French from Middlebury College. She began her teaching career in Bethel, CT, before moving to Windsor Locks, where she taught French and English for many years at Windsor Locks High School. Later in life, Gail worked for nine years at Education Connection in Litchfield, CT.

Gail was an active member and former Deacon of the United Church of Christ Congregational in New Milford. She lived at Bernhardt Meadow in Roxbury, CT before moving to Canton to be closer to her family.

In her free time, Gail had a variety of hobbies. She was a member of the National Ski Patrol and, alongside Ray, spent many years as patrollers at Bromley Mountain in VT. Gail had a passion for literature and enjoyed being an avid reader. She also had a deep appreciation for classical music. Gail's talent extended to knitting, and at the time of her passing, she had three knitting projects in progress.

Gail is survived by her daughter, Andrea O'Neil (Ozzie Elafyouni) of Canton, CT, and her grandsons Alexander O'Neil (Sam Middlebrook) of New Britain, CT, and Ethan O'Neil of Canton, CT. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

A private burial service will be held for Gail. The Vincent Funeral Home in Canton, CT, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her soul rest in peace.
