Adrian deVogel Obituary

deVOGEL, Adrian Anthony "Dutch" 90, died peacefully in his sleep on Feb. 5, 2012, near his home of 25 years in Dunedin. Adrian leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Ans; three children Caroline (Stephen O'Donnell), Mary Ann deVogel, and Richard (Sherry Clippert deVogel), as well as five grandchildren, Stephen (Maureen) O'Donnell, Brian (Laura) O'Donnell, Neil (Kelly) O'Donnell, John (Stephanie) Cieszkowski, Ann (Doug) Kingsbury and eight great-grandchildren. Born in Amsterdam, Holland, on April 22, 1921, Adrian was a member of the Dutch Merchant Marines and Royal Dutch Navy during World War II. He and Ans emigrated to the United States in 1947, where he began working at the Statler Hotel in Detroit. Adrian began work at the Dearborn Inn in 1955, as a Dining Room manager. He soon advanced to Restaurant Manager, Executive Assistant Manager in charge of operations and General Manager in May of 1970. In 1981, he was appointed Vice President of Seaboard Property Co. and remained manager until his retirement in 1986. Adrian was responsible for the implementation of the Sunday Brunch and Friday Seafood Fantasy, two popular events well known to The Inn's frequent visitors. Adrian was a long time Dearborn resident and member of the Dearborn Rotary, Skal Club, and the Dearborn Centurions. He was President of the Dearborn Chamber of Commerce and the Michigan Lodging Association. Adrian was Chairman of the Board of the Michigan Restaurant Association (1979) and Board Member (1973- mid 80's). Adrian served on the board of the Detroit Branch of the International Food Service Association. He received several awards and citations, including the Outstanding Service Award of the Food Industry Council of Greater Detroit. He served on the Board of Directors and was a member of the Executive Board for the American Hotel and Motel Association.
