Cherri and family. Each year I will think of your loss at this time. I never had the pleasure of knowing Alex and for that I am sorry from what I hear about him. As I have told you, I am always amazed at how strong you have been. Keep smiling. You are an inspiration to all that have lost loved ones.

I loved my dad soooooooo much. I think my mom made the right choice when she married him because he was the best dad in the world. When ever I was sad he always cheered me up with a really funny joke or really weird and funny faces. My dad always took me camping and hiking.I loved it when he took me to school and other places on his scooter. My dad was AWESOME!

To all of those amazing people who have signed the guest book, I thank you. It gives me incredible solace to see all of the lives that my dear husband touched. It amazes me how far the grief and sadness has reached and how many people knew and loved him. It is a tribute to how he lived his life. Ironically, on his palm pilot I found this quote,"It is not how many breaths you take, but how many things take your breath away." He lived life hard and without regret. He loved and cherished every person he met. Thank you again for your thoughts and kindness.

Dear Cherri and family,
We are very very sorry for your loss. Even in the short time I worked with Alex at Fraser Heights, it was obvious he was getting twice as much out of life as the rest of us and giving even more. If you are back in Ontario, we would love to get together sometime.
With deep sympathy,

To Eddy Beltran and family
We have only just heard of the untimely loss of your beautiful son Alex. Although I had not seen Alex since the summer when his sister married and then his beautiful mother lost her fight with Cancer, My memories of Alex go back to his childhood days as our house neighbour, the eldest and politest child, but with such a sense of fun. The world has lost a wonderful example of a compassionate soul. I am so sorry that I have only just received this news and missed the BBQ event you held in Alex memory. Sadly this was also the weekend in July I lost my Father. We are never supposed to watch our children leave before us, but God's greater plan cannot be always understood. Alex has left a great legacy in his children. God be with all of you at this difficult time.

Dear Cherri, Claudia, Mr. Beltran and family
I have just heard today of the very sad passing of a beautiful man. I knew Alex during his time at the University of Toronto. He was room mates with Reid, my boyfriend at the time. We shared so many fun times together as carefree university students. Ironically, last month, I tried to find Alex on Facebook, with no luck. Little did I know, that his warm, kind soul had made its way into the heavens. Alex was a treasure of a person, full of life, laughter and mischief. His untimely departure had brought tears of sadness as I think about the family who no longer has the pleasure of his physical presence. I also know that Alex is probably smiling down on all of us. Wishing you all peace in your journey forward.
Love Sadia

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss!
I had just found some old photos of Alex while cleaning out our storage room last week. Those photos reminded me of our ski trip to Lake Tahoe in 1992. I wrote down my memories of our trip on my blog:
http://www.iunknown.com/2007/08/alex-beltran.html.
We had lost touch in the mid-90's, and it was always on the back of my mind to try and find him again. I'm so sorry that it had to be this way.
I hope my blog entry brings back some memories of good times. I miss my friend.

Dear Cherri, Tristian, Kalissa, Eddy, Andreas, and Claudia
It's taken me a while to sit down, and compose my thoughts. The news of Alex's accident arrived at the same time as the birth of our daughter, our first child. The great joy of our daughter's arrival has been mixed with the great sadness of Alex's death.
My wife Claire met Alex, when Alex invited us out of the blue for dinner when he was in town, that one meeting left her with such a strong impression of the wonderful person Alex was. An impression Alex has left with a great many people.
I have many memories of Alex, from high school friend to University house mate, Alex made that period of our lives a lot of fun, making sure we didn't take things too seriously.
My sister reminded me of a memory that is quite clear in my mind and hers. Alex was giving us a ride in the Beltran Honda, driving down Sussex drive on a late afternoon mid-summer day. Where we were coming from and where we were going I can't recall, it wasn't of any consequence. The radio was playing "You're Unbelievable", and we bopped along to the tune enjoying Alex's company, and the joy that was in that moment. It was an inconsequential moment that Alex made sure we wouldn't forget.
Of the many things that I have Alex to thank for, introducing me to the Beltran family is at the top of the list. Mý thoughts have been with you these last few weeks.

Alex was always so brimming with life I find it hard to conceive that the cosmos could take him back. I was always so amazed and impressed with his drive and fierce intellect. I wish you peace and good memories, always.

To the Beltran family,
It is with a shocked and heavy heart I convey my deepest sympathies on the passing of Dr. Beltran. Dearest Cherri, Tristian and Kalissa,
Some people find it hard to cry but we all cried for Alex and in doing so found we could barely conceive of your own grief at your own loss.
Alex's legacy for you is a close and loving family on which to build a new future and to share and treasure the memories of his life, sadly cut short as it was.
Thankfully, time does magically heal all wounds, and our tears will eventually dry up and perhaps we will be able to look back with less pain and instead celebrate and say, there was a man to be proud of, one who enriched all those fortunate enough to have known him.
God bless you and your two lovely children.
Much love,

Dear Beltran Family,
It is the day after the beautiful memorial service you had for Alex at the farm. The ceremony left me feeling very emotional, as the speeches were absolutely heartfelt and courageous. My thoughts and prayers are with Alex's family at this difficult time. I know I can speak on behalf of all those on the National diving scene and the National Diving Team. Alex was a diving friend (and competitive foe!) of mine for many years. He was always fun, always a good friend, and really a positive force to be around. I have lost touch with him over the years, but have always considered him to still be my friend. From reading the remarkable words of his wife, he had continued on from diving to have some good affect in the world. He has touched many lives in his short time with us. And I can honestly say he touched mine. He was a good soul, and we should all be so lucky to be a bit more like him. The world would be an amazing place. Thank God I got some time with Alex. He was an amazing person. May God bless him and may he Rest in Peace.

Cherri,
Every time I have tried to write this I have stopped, hoping that if I gave it just a little more thought I would find the words to somehow make your sadness more bearable. But the words don't come, so please know that our hearts are with you and Tris and Calissa always and though Carlos and I were not able to attend the memorial service, you are in our thoughts and we were there in spirit.
I have nothing but the fondest memories of Alex and his natural ability to brighten up the office, bump shoulders to say 'Hi' and try to find out the latest gossip. I consider myself fortunate to have known such a kind and gentle soul.

Here is the information for this upcoming weekend for Alex:
For those who wish to join us in remembering a great individual, please arrive to the farm anytime after 1:00pm on Saturday. A short informal "ceremony" will be held at 5:00pm and then we will be preparing some BBQ food for dinner. The evening will include a bonfire, singing, Alex stories/memory telling, drinks etc... For those who wish to stay the evening (which we encourage) please bring tents, lawn chairs, drinks and food (we are hoping to have a couple of kegs and perhaps a pig roast, but if this doesn't all pan out then at least what you have brought for yourselves will act as a back up). The gathering is of a spontaneous and informal nature, much like Alex, and any "pot luck style" contributions to the BBQ would be greatly appreciated. Sunday will be a get up, hang around, perhaps a swim and head out whenever you want kind of day.
We look forward to seeing as many of you up there for as long as you would like to stay. If I could ask you to please pass on the word to others that would be helpful, as we are only going on word of mouth right now. This information will also be posted on remembering.ca if you want to check it out there. If you have any questions feel free to email me or call me at (613) 729-6907. Thanks and we'll talk soon.
Directions of how to get to the farm from Ottawa are as follows:
Address: 111 Neely Rd. Low, Quebec
Phone # at the farm: 819-422-1161
1) from Ottawa take Hwy 5 North towards Wakefield all the way to the end
2) Turn left onto Hwy 105 North toward Wakefield (do not turn into Wakefield once you get there)
3) Stay right on the merging lanes near the end and turn Left at the lights onto Hwy 105 North towards Maniwaki
4) Continue on Hwy 105 until you get to Brennan's Hill. At the Brennan's Hill Restaurant turn Left (Chemin Mcdonald).
5) Continue on Chemin Mcdonald for 8km and turn Right on Neely Rd. Travel 2km, first driveway on your left #111.
N.B. If while on Hwy 105 you miss the Brennan's Hill turn off and end up in the town of Low, you have gone too far... turn around and come back a few km.

Shocking and terrible news. I am so sorry for your great loss.
Alex was an amazing person and will be greatly missed. I still can’t believe it’s true. Just last weekend I was thinking about how great high school was due to my friends. Alex played such a huge role at that time in our lives. I recall attending one of his diving competitions. What an athlete. We would occasionally cycle home from school and I think (I know) I slowed him down. He never said anything; always a gentlemen. He inspired all of us. We were fortunate to have had him in our lives.
Lots of love to all his family.

Dear Beltran Family,
I just this morning discovered the deeply, deeply sad news of Alex's passing. I was taking our dog, Zoe, to a last minute appointment at the clinic and I saw Alex's photograph, in memorian. I was shocked and incredibly saddened at the news. Although I had known Alex through just a handful of appointments at the clinic, I immediately knew he was very special individual. I am incredibly saddened by the loss of such a well-loved, special person and I send my deepest sympathies to his entire family.

Dear Dr. Eddy Beltran and Family
There will come a day when your tears of sorrow will softly flow into tears of remembrance...
and your heart will begin to heal itself...
and grieving will be interrupted by episodes of joy...
and you will hear the whisper of hope.
There will come a day when you will welcome the tears of remembrance...
as a sunshower of the soul...
a turning of the tide...
and a promise of peace.
Our sincere condolences - our thoughts and prayers have been with you ever since we heard this terrible news.

First of all, thank you for your kind words of support and heartfelt entries. I have just now checked out for the first time this site as suggested by our friend/neighbour/sister Nathania Stanford. I am completely blown away with the number of people from all over the world that have re-connected with our family. I am sure that my dad will also be incredibly impressed with this, as anything computer based is quite mind boggling for him (if highlight and bold or caps lock impresses him.... this remembering.ca is going to put him over the top...). I and I'm sure Clau, my dad and other family members will post their own entries very soon thanking all of you for your kind words.
To not continue rambling on at this point, I wanted to quickly post some preliminary information about the "family and friend" gathering in Ottawa this weekend...
Where: The Beltran Farm (in Quebec - 1 hour from Ottawa)
When: Saturday and Sunday (July 28th and 29th)
Who: Any family or friend associated with the Beltran Family
What: A good ol' fashioned Beltan party/get together in Alex's name.
I will post more information here as we get organized, as well as getting all of you to help us get the word out to others. For now, if you need any information or to RSVP either email me at [email protected] or call me on my cell at 613-282-2639.
With love, Andres.

Even after few days... the only thing coming to my mind and heart is ...a sentence often said by Eddy during family constellations: It's TOO BIG...nothing to say"
Dear Beltran family,
We offer you, from the oldest to the youngest, our deepest condolences.
To know the needs of men and to bear the burden of their sorrow , that is the true love of men.

Dear Claudia, the Beltran family and the many friends of Alex,
Although I did not know Alex well, he left an impression on me. I remember him as being dynamic, personable, and the kind of person that made you smile just by being around him. As I read through all of the notes written in this guest book, it is evident that he lived life to the fullest, touched the lives of many and was truly an inspiration to the people around him.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this very difficult time.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with you at AECFV years ago, and can remember when Alex and Tristian would come in to visit you. I was so amazed at you and Alex, finishing vet school with a little one. The love you shared was very obvious. My heart goes out to you and yours.

My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the entire Beltran family. It is with great shock and sadness that I write this. I recently got to know Alex through Bayridge School and our small neighborhood. Sharing some common interests with Alex, I was sincerely hoping to get to know him better. He was truly one of the few people I can say this about. I will miss his smile and upbeat personality on the walk to school in the morning. My daughter will miss walking the puppy for him... Stay strong, play with the kids and the animals. Our thoughts are with you.
Sincerely,
Grant Brown and family.

I feel honoured to have known Alex-a more adventuresome, caring, honest soul one could not meet. The times we spent as leaders in the Sea Scouts are some of my most memorable. My 15 yr old son Christopher insisted on attending the service because of the great memories he had of Alex and his involvement with Scouts.
Cherri, you gave an outstanding testimony to Alex at the service-I so admire your strength.May God bless you and your children.

I am so shocked and saddened this morning to read about Dr. Beltran's passing. His love, caring and compassion for his furry friends and for their concerned owners was always so evident in his practice. I always knew that K-Lee was in Healing Hands when she was with Dr. Beltran. We will miss his friendly and warm greeting each time we enter the clinic.
My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go to all his family during this very difficult time.

Dear Cherri & Family;
I was so shocked and saddened to her of this tragedy.
What a true loss to this planet.
I too had lost my mother 4 days before this. I was apprehensive to attend Alex's Service because of my own greif. However, I did attend with others from
Fraser Heights Animal Hospital, and I am so grateful I did.
You and your Family's Faith and Strength were "Greif Shattering" and I felt so uplifted and so in Awe of all the love in that building.
What a truely amazing man and family! I will never forget that day. Alex will be so very missed...... My thoughts and prayers go out to you.
