My How Time Flies.......
it seems like just the other day, Uncle Junior came to kid-sit - he ordered something on the phone, just after our parents left. A delivery person showed up w/a large white box, and something inside we had never had ......PIZZA ! We loved him from the get-go. As a tween, he gifted me a really cool AM radio, probably given from his love of music, which did carry over to me.
Every June 28th, we all hopped on a 3-day, 2-nite train ride to Sylvania Ranch, in California - owned by his parents Alex `Pappy´ Jacobs, Sr., and Sylvia Sargis Jacobs. It had an ALMOND and a PEACH orchard, with multiple buildings - Al had his own private, cool bungalow, where we loved to hang out in. He would drive a tractor through the orchards, pulling a trailor w/all his little nieces/nephews on it. When he and Pappy were irrigating, they would put each kid in adult-sized rubber irrigation boots, that came up to (or past) our thighs - it was hilarious.
A few years on, I remember my Mom worrying about her younger brother, who was serving his Country in Korea. He finally returned, got married, and started a beautiful family.
When I lived in the City, 2 little Tulsa cousins flew in to spend time with me. I called Al and Louis (first wife & Mother of their children)......´could any kids come for a sleep-over?´ (that´d be a YES), so off we went to get 3 more, for a total of 5 little kids - in the hatchback of my teeny car, and be-boppin´ to 70´s Funk and classic Rock. Al loved to see ALL the cousins get together for some giggles.
Later in Life, he would fly out West to visit us, where more fun ensued - especially, in a PHX Open corporate tent, or driving around in a golf cart, soaking up some Arizona sunshine. Once, I took him shopping for `authentic´ head2toe Western wear - and, a few weeks later, he sent me a peach (code, for a hundred dollar bill).
