Alex James Mendenhall

REFLECTIONS OF LIFE
Alex J. Mendenhall (A.J) was born August 16, 1945 to the late Ruth & Jadie Mendenhall; Alex was the sixth of nine Children.
Alex moved to California in 1963 for a better opportunity with his Brother Bo. Rogers. When Bo passed Alex preparing to return back to Arkansas was offered to stay with his late Uncle and Aunt Jack & Ardine Mixon where he was always treated like he was one of their children and for this Alex was forever grateful.
Alex graduated from Centennial High School, Compton California. Alex was always looking for ways to better himself so he took many classes at Jr. Colleges.
Alex was reunited with the Love of his Life and they were later married on Feb.4th, 1967. They were blessed with two beautiful children, Tonya & Alex Jr. After 47 years of marriage Alex always found a way to let Cassandra and anyone they came in contact with know how much he loved her.
Alex accepted Christ and was baptized at Ambassadors for Christ MBC under the late Bishop Joe Collins where he was the first video Photographer.
Alex Loved children, coaching, teaching and mentoring so in the early eighty's you could always find him at Jesse Owens Park running some type of Sports Programs.
Those that knew Alex know that he could not sit still at the sound of any music which was another passion and could go for hours and never seemed to tire. Now he gets to Dance in Heaven.
On his second term at Boeing (McDonnell Douglas) where he was a structural engineer on May 31, 2013 he retired with 38 years of service.
After retirement he filled his days attending car shows, and excited he finally had a grandson interested in playing basketball he was elated to assist Alex Jr. coach our 6 year old grandson.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents: Jadie & Ruth Mendenhall, (3) Brothers: Bo. Rogers, E.J. and James Mendenhall (1) Sister: Margie Andrews (George) Brother-n-law: Chester C. Nolen
He leaves to mourn his home going his loving and devoted wife Cassandra, Children: Tonya Gibson, Alex Jr (Cindy) Brother: Every J Mendenhall (Florence) of Malvern Arkansas,(3) Sisters: Dorothy Junior, Mildread Wilson (Dennis) of Malvern, Ark. Lois Williams of L.A Ca. (4)Brothers in Law: Tommy Nolen (Phillis), Norris Nolen (Anna), , Jerrold Evans ( Margot) of L.A. Ca. James Evans (Kimberly) of No. Ca. (3) Sisters- n- law: Sonya Moore (Clifford), Addie Nolen of Dallas Texas, Mattie Nolen of Malvern, Ark . (8) Grandchildren, Jerrell, Julius, Joseph and James Gibson, Lawrence, Ke'aira, Zackary and Gabriella Mendenhall. (3) Great Grand's: Mariah, Marcus, and Jerrell Gibson Jr. (4) God Children: Deshon Mosley, Davon Clark, Tenise Thompson and Marquitta Cooper. A host of Aunts,Uncles,Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends all of whom he loved dearly.
Special mention to Nieces: Phillis Newborn and Brandi Nolen.
