Alexander Douglas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 5 to Feb. 7, 2013.
Douglas Alex Douglas passed away suddenly on February 2, 2013 at the age of 54 years. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Mary, and their three daughters Megan, Erin and Natalie. He will also be remembered by his sister Alison O'Dwyer (Arthur) brothers-in-law Allen Butler (Jane) and Peter Butler (Karen); nieces and nephews Edward, Beth and Carolyn O'Dwyer and Gregory and Michael Butler. He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Vivienne Douglas and infant sister Jocelyn. Though his parting was too soon, he will always remain in our hearts and memories. Alex, known for his zest for life and amazing smile had a kind heart, wonderful sense of humour, and strong loyalties to his family, friends and colleagues. He will be missed for his never-ending enthusiasm, outgoing personality, and infectious laugh. His greatest joy was his three daughters whom he unconditionally adored. His wife will miss the love of her life, her best friend, and soulmate. Alex had a passion for downhill skiing and was an avid tennis player playing regularly in the Glencoe men's tennis league and managed to commit to overall fitness and well-being. Alex was an original season ticket holder for the Calgary Flames and was a passionate hard-core fan. The Calgary Stampede was his favourite event - one he never missed. Alex was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta and graduated from Queens University with a Commerce degree in 1980. He worked for over 30 years in the oil and gas industry in Calgary. He began his career at Dome Petroleum in the finance department and evolved this career into the natural gas marketing, storage and transportation business. A celebration of Alex's life will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the Calgary Glencoe Club in the ballroom (636 29th Avenue S.W.) at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Canadian Heart and Stroke foundation at www.heartandstroke.ca.

I am saddened to hear about Alex's passing. When I started at Elboya school he was one of the first people to say "Hi". Small thing for someone to do yet huge for the "new kid". My condolences to Mary and the girls. He will be greatly missed.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Alex's passing, (as well as Vivienne's passing!). The last time I saw Alex was at my Dad's funeral in 2000. I had only met him a handful of times beginning when I was 14, but remember his very kind, sweet, and humorous demeanor. I even had a little crush on him when I was 16 years old (he was 26). :-) On behalf of Bill's daughters, our heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Douglas family.

Alex was one of the friendliest most genuine people I had the priviledge of meeting through work, he always had time for people. Nothing made him light up like talking about his girls, I can't even imagine your grief. Deepest condolences.

My deepest sympathy to the family, I worked with Alex at Dome. He was always upbeat and a pleasure to work with.

February 6, 2013

We were stunned and saddened to hear the news of Alex passing. I remember the weekly weekend evening drive before anyone had a licence and even after with Macauley, Liam and Easton to your home where all the kids gathered. That says a lot for the warmth and welcoming way Alex and Mary always greeted the kids..such a lovely family. So many memories.... Erin and Kirstin coming out to our Windermere cottage for the weekend, the WIC grad... We are so sorry for his untimely passing and the grief and pain your family is suffering. Our healing thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time.

Mary, Megan, Erin, Natalie, & the O'Dwyers:
Some of my earliest and happiest childhood memories were of the times spent at Sunny Beach in Kelowna with the Douglas family. Alex was my "big" cousin, and I so looked up to him; and was so excited when he and Alison would take us to the candy store down the street. At our family reunions, Alex was always the life of the party, and would often have young ones literally hanging off of him, wanting to play with the "big kid."
Our whole family is deeply sorry for your loss, and our thoughts are with you at this very sad time. Much love to all of you.
