It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Alexander (Alex) Pieterse on March 22, 2013.
Alex is survived by his wife of 38 years, Vera (Fediow); son, Field Pieterse of Edmonton; two brothers, John Jr. (Joop) and wife, Colleen and Jack (Koos) and wife, Ellen of California; eight nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, Sara and John Pieterse. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and thank you for the efforts and kindness extended by the Alberta Sheriff's Department.
Funeral Service Tuesday, April 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 - 111 Avenue. Interment in St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery, Chipman, AB. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 10985 -124 Street NW, Edmonton, AB T5M 0H9 or to the Cross Cancer Institute, Alberta Cancer Foundation, 11560 University Avenue, Edmonton, AB T6G 1Z2.
Alex was a gentle soul, his kindness to others and passion for life will be forever missed, but never forgotten.

Dear Vera and family. We were so sorry to hear of Alex passing. We always enjoyed those special moments sitting around the campfire and sharing stories and talking about the problems of mosquitoes and weeds. On one memorable occasion we found him sitting by the fire, keeping his eyes out for a cougar that had been sighted in the area. He was truly part of a neighborhood family that we valued deeply. We appreciated his quiet spirit, sincere smile, warm personality and hearty laughter. He was taken much too soon and will be missed.

Alex was my racquetball buddy for about ten years. We played Tuesday nights and some tournaments together. A great man and friend. My sympathies to his family for their loss. We all miss him in our own way.
